He means the power level of the loot. Seems it's impossible to get higher than level 130 equipment

the gear you loot is based on the highest powerlevel item you ever had. so it will keep getting better every time you open a chest, but slowly. you run higher difficulties cause recruit chests can give a max of powerlvl 100.
edit:
actually not sure if its the highest level you ever HAD or currently HAVE.
might wanna keep your highest lvl items just in case

Im getting stuff upto almost 170 now, I feel like equiping the best stuff helps. kept keeping my orange or blue gear and not upgrading if it wasnt more then 10 power lvls higher but seemed to almost never be getting anything better. Suddenly i just start equiping things even if they are just 2-3 power higher and i went from stuck around 150sh area this morning to almost 170 before taking a break.

So, if you open a chest, and then just salvage everything out of it, does that mean your next chest won't be any higher because you don't have those items in your inventory?

Sounds like it.

I hope they rethink the approach to "levelling" up a bit. I like the general idea of the current loot system, but forcing you to change your equipment all the time or keeping stuff you'd otherwise salvage in your inv. seems to me to be a) too much micro management and b) not really "satisfying".

I think the power level of items you get out of the boxes should be exclusively tied to your class level and of course limited by the map's difficulty (as it is now). Maybe you could increase the possible range of loot while increasing your class level: so while from level 1-5 you'd have e.g. range from 5-15, 16-25 etc. the ranges at max level would be 270-300 to increase replayability.

bah, that's dumb, i've done that a few times, i like to keep my inventory clean : (

It's basically the Destiny 2 itemlevel system. You can't get max level gear even when you farm the highest difficulty.

Your powerlevel slowly raises with every item you get till it reaches the cap for that box (100 recruit, 200 veteran, 300 champion).

It's actually kinda pointless to even do Champion difficulty when you only have gear under level 200. The loot is the same as from a veteran box. You just get a lil more xp.

Im not a fan of this system. It is designed to be a long, long grind.

yeah amplified by the fact that I think the only way to improve exp gain with actual skill is a "quick play bonus", aka rushing the level. nothing for taking low damage, killing enemies, or anything of that sort. so grab the static tomes, rush the level, repeat, repeat, repeat
Smoky Mar 5, 2018 @ 1:11am
Actually you are wrong. Game keeps track of your highest power item you have ever gotten. It doesnt check your inventory, it checks whats the highest power lvl item you ever had with that hero.

Quick play bonus is for playing on quick play mode with pubs, not rushing the level

Hi, I was watching the stream and the dev said that the gear dropped is subject to the highest power item in your stash/ storage. So if you get a drop you dont want but is higher level that what you have just keep it in your stash.

I wonder if you have a 150 power weapon for example and game gives me a 200 power but the 150 one has better stats right, so I choose the 150 power one and salvage the 200 one, does that mean the game will give me the next item based on the stuff I have on me or the best I got so far from the loot.

I heard from a streamer that he indeed confirmed that the gear you receive is based on the highest level gear your have ever RECEIVED rather than what is sitting in your inventory. Otherwise if you salvaged all your good gear one day, all the sudden you would start rolling gear in the level 10s again. People would have been complaining about that like crazy by now if that were the case.
