Shade is best for burst damage, which includes near insta-deleting bosses if you are prepared properly (ie, have conc pots and know how to use them), but you have to be very good because it's a squishy class the doesn't allow for mistakes.
It's more about knowing your builds and weapon combos and using the right attack for the right situation. Sword+Dagger for example is great against hordes just by spamming left click, but to DPS bosses or elites you need to use the Push Stab (to head) > Heavy Attack (to head) combo.
Example: Shade has an ability that one shots Chaos Warriors in melee. If you put axe on Waystalker, you can kill Chaos Warriors pretty fast, on demand, with no ult necessary.
Nothing is straightforward or set in stone. You can bend the rules a lot.
How the Winds of Magic expansion will change her remains to be seen.
