What's the point of this game?
I just started playing, with a new character on recruit. I've tried to play three missions now, all have been in pitch black and in every one a minute to two minutes in some bizarre magical effect drains all of my health in a few seconds and kills me. Then I'm stuck in "waiting to be rescued". The team instantly runs off doing things leaving me behind. This game makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

I think you're playing the Weekly Event challenge, don't do that.

vermintide is a reskinned version of left 4 dead with a progression system. don't think of it as much else. lots of dlc content though.

Huh? L4D/2 doesn't even hold a candle to V2.

people who haven't played L4D in like 6 years have been repeating that since the first game. ignore them.
Then the weekly event as the default mission option was a stupid design decision.

To crush the Pactsworn, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

It's not, but if you are new to the game, it's easy to select it instead of going through an easier mission.
What you'd want to do ideally is to make custom games, locking the part, so that you play with bots, setting it on recruit and trying a few missions.
Even if you fail, it will give you a good idea of how to play, and since bots always follow you and cover you, it will be more enjoyable than being left behind by humans.

Once you feel you've got a good grip on the game (using career skill, parrying, dodging and so on), go on with quick matches and stick with people. Even if you don't actually do much, just having someone stay with the group and blocking/pushing back hordes already helps a lot in recruit/veteran difficulties. Tagging enemies with "T" also helps other players a lot.

What they should do is just QP. It is the main game mode and will get you higher level loot from the QP bonus. QP recruit until level 10, then move on to Vet until level 20, then Champ until 30, then Legend. Once you're at level 35, can win Legend with bots most of the time, and have all reds, then try Cata.

I've played l4d2 only last week and I don't understand how you don't see the obvious similarities.

No they should not flood legend when there get to lvl 30. They should be able to solo champ with bots before as the learning curve between champ and legend is huge right now

The games trash.

Really, don't waste your time - that's what this game does.
Wastes.
Your.
Time.

You know how F2P games have lots of unnecessary time gated mechanics? Those games, the worst offenders, have more respect for a players time than V2.

I do agree to this in regards to rewards. You play these games to have success be rewarded with something cool. There is almost no way to receive cosmetics in this game and reds drop few and far in between. The fact that every chest is randomized does not help either. What i want is to be able to work towards a certain item in an on rails fashion. Want this helmet ? Go do this! The amounts of hours wasted running this game and not receiving anything but garbage you just salvage down to add to your ever growing pile of dust and scrap is really off putting at times.

Instead of giving us Emperors Chest #9876 or Commendation Chest #7654, Okris Challenges should award Cosmetics & red Illusions. There is something like this is there but it was put in after the fact. All the Cosmetics in the library should be obtainable in a meaningful way other then just rolling 6 sixes when opening a Commendation Chest.

And because i can already hear all the nay-sayers going "You just want everything presented on a silver plater."

No i don't. I want to put in some work to get the things i want to have. For me most motivation comes from cosmetic rewards. I'm just wired like that sue me. The game in itself is fun but the reward side is what is taking the fun gameplay part and puts a massive damper on it.

I think the issues are fairly apparent upfront. Quick Play is actually the main campaign progression mode and not so much quick play. Typically in gaming quick play means something else that isn't usually directly attached to campaign progression.

Except because quick play is apparently random and repeats levels (who knows how it really works), custom game is actually how to properly progress the campaign. It's labelled almost like an RTS or something but isn't entirely that.

That alone immediately tells you something is off. This isn't the only game either where they have the nightmode. It's in that lootbox based mobile game.

That is objectively false. Quickplay has absolutely nothing to do with campaign progression, and in fact, the only thing it can possibly affect in regards to progression at all would be how quickly you acquire one specific challenge/achievement (equipping a red item for the first time).

i would suggest the object of this game is about the same as the object of any game. to have as much fun as possible for as long as possible with the amount spent. you know ... entertainment...
