how to build the zealot?
own the base game. is holy fortitude with boon of shallya mandatory? how is natural bond? I struggle to build up hp and the white bar dissappears quickly. also, do you build flail different than say a falchion?

Some good stuff to know for zealot, in order to get the most out of your passive talent to give you bonuses at low hp you need to run bonus hp on your necklace and get the mod numeric ui to see your actual hp, I would consider these mandatory. You can get 6 stacks of fiery faith and have 30% bonus power, this is really really good.

The talents i like to run are 212223
First row, 2 is the only real option because temp hp on kill is by far the best white hp generation perk. If you can kill elites consistently, you will have more white hp than you'll know what to do with.

Second row, 1 is again by far the best perk in row. 20% attack speed is too good to pass on.

Third row, 2 again because mainstay is the best stagger perk he has. Smiter can't keep up with hordes and increased power is pointless on him because of his passive FF.

Fourth row, 2 because crusade is a meme and 30% damage reduction is pointless compared to doubled temp hp generation. The bonus to healing affects white hp generation, and with white hp on kill you can have half your health bar back from one or two stormvermin.

Fifth row doesn't matter, all the perks are meh. I pick 2 for more stamina so hordes are a little safer.

Sixth row you pick 3, both other perks are useless, his ult doesn't last long enough for the buffs to matter outside of extremely niche situations.

Zealot is possibly still the strongest class in the game, and he can make any weapon work, even the axe if you're dedicated. But his better weapons are GS, flail and A+F. You build all his weapons the same, with attack speed and crits.

As far as traits go, run swift slaying, bark skin or boon, and past that you can do whatever you want.

If you play him well and take GS you can chop whole chunks of hordes out with a single swipe even on legend. Kinda trivializes the game at some point.

Hunapo is right about you being nearly invincible. And if you can dodge the disablers you can carry any game you want.

i never played him, but zealot true power comes from having lower hp, so natrual bond by default is bad choice on him. thats all i can say!

I thought natural bond gave decaying hp which doesn't count as normal hp?

natrual bond gives perma hp every few secs, it is not temp hp ( THP / white hp ) it gives green hp. it only gives decaying hp ( THP ) when you use healing items.
Falchion and axe is OP. Just saying.
Try shalias gift and see the difference yourself. Or try another THP generating perk. It's not a big thing to reroll traits.

It is not mandatory and I'd say redundant. Try Barkskin with Holy Fortitude. Lvl 5 talent will depend on your weapon, both mentioned should be on multiple enemies(also why your THP is so low). On kill works too, because Zealot

dont own the dlc, and im playing multiplayer so I assume slower weapons are fine.
I dont take either of those.

I pref resistances with barkskin. WIth this setup and 2hSword you`re be able to facetank hordes on cata. (THP on kill, ofc)

It gives static 1 green hp every 5s.
This can be further boosted by zealots passive heal talent and boon of shalia.
However, you dont want that.
Zealot life:
Get to lvl 20, pick holy fortitude. Go to 30 green hp (while having the 20% hp necklace).
You have 90% more thp generation as well, you are sitting at 6 stack of passive which yields also 30% extra power with 20% extra attack speed. Put on barskin.
Avoid heavy blows from heavy units.
Smash LMB as fast as you can.
You are legend ready.
Profit.

The only thing that can kill you is disablers (hook, assasin, leech)

^ Aside of notion about dmg reduction - pretty much agree. I would recommend you to run both THP and dmg reduction and check wihich one performs best for you. I found latter to be more useful, as it let me survive even in hardest situation with multiple elites, where i can be oneshotted, if not dmg reduction, while THP i gain is excessive anyway. Only time i regret getting dmg red is into the nest map, where i`m not getting much THP on this little pinky bastards.

Anyway, good summary and, as always, listen, but think by yourself :)
"oh my temporary health is low, i need to use (read: waste) a heal right now." -every natural bond zealot i've ever seen.
pls don't become one of them. use boon or barkskin.

Normally I would give you some ♥♥♥♥, but after looking at your profile, I can see you have a personal grudge against natural bond. So I will let it pass.

I would say at 20, the dmg drop is the weakest.
Even with the 30% + 10% from 25 talent + 40% from barskin, it sounds good, but it is actually a trap.
The 90% extra heal is ridiculously OP, a single slaverat grants 1 THP, a CW gives 55 THP just with that talent, meanwhile you can still run barkskin.
Also, the 30% extra movement speed is also ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OP. With that, you can basically outrun even chaos spawn and hookrats wont be able to hook you because when they reach you and stop to do animation you are already far away from them with simple moving, no dodge needed at all. Doesnt mean people shouldnt try, but it is inferior compared to the other 2 options.

Where would i ever need so many THP? If i`d have infinite healthbar - yes, that THP would be better.

DMG reduction, on other hand, let me soak much more damage, it works even when i cant kill (that happens in real game), it protects me from being oneshotted when we have 2 grims. it let me go through gasfield and flamerat.
What is better, taking 125 dmg in your face from a CW (which is whole your healthbar), or taking 62,5? Sure, with THP gen you can heal faster, but do you REALLY need it? I pref being able to get through tought scenarious. ANd HTP - i would get it anyway. Especially if you`re last man standing.

And the #1 advantage that so many people seem to forget when comparing increased healing vs damage reduction:

The more damage you take, the sooner your Skill will recharge, which in Zealot's case means that you will be back at it again either wailing on a horde or using that opportunity to dash away to a better position.
