Uncut version changed to cut
I have an uncut retail copy of Saints Row 3, but when I wanted to coop with a friend today, I had to find out, that the game had been changed to the cut version. This is very very annoying since I can no longer coop with any of my friends.

Well, I was gifted the Uncut Version but I received the cut version... now Steam tells me to go away and that they can't help... nice company, isn't it ?
What is the difference between cut and uncut versions? I just bought the game today and now i'm wondering what version i got. I live in the usa.

In Germany you are missing the "Whored Mode" and the ability to use civilians as a shield.
Also, civvies don't drop cash upon death.
I guess what ever mode it is is being starred out as a cuss word according to steam.

it is the horde mode with a W in front ;)
Oh ok ill have to see if my usa version has that. Thank you.

I can't look at your profile, but if you live anywhere outside of Germany and someone gifted you the game, chances are you have the full US Version (or UK or whatever, doesn't matter, as long as you're outside of my country, you should be good)

Cool, at least i'm not the only one... Steam just sucks, just like Origin and all the other game clients...
I don't think its steam i think its your countrys laws that prohibit what you can see in games. And steam has to obey laws of all countrys.
Grobulon Jun 8, 2013 @ 3:09pm
there is no law against that
Jade Jun 8, 2013 @ 3:10pm
There is a law in my country that you cannot buy games like Saints Row 3 HERE, that doesn't apply to any form of digital download or gifts through digital stores.
What Steam is doing has NOTHING to do with my country's laws, it's purely self-castration.

This is also a reason why there is wide-spread piracy in the PC-Gaming section, and i'm afraid I have to stoop to this level if I want to enjoy the games the way they were meant to be played.
Yea but from what i read they censore stuff they don't want the population seeing over there. Some countrys ban games cause of its content. Here in the usa we had our gta sa hot coffee mode taken off us in a patch. Like in some countrys in left 4 dead 2 the zombies disappear as soon as there killed and you cant blow limbs off or heads off but the usa version dont have none of that. You can shoot limbs off heads off and the bodies stay forever.

Yes... but that doesn't mean that i'm not allowed to have access to those games. They censor them so people under the age of 18 who buy them don't see too much blood & gore.
But by law I am not restricted to just low gore versions, this is purely to protect people under 18. Since i'm way over 18, I should not have this problem, but Steam just doesn't differentiate, they just say "just cut versions for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Krauts" and leave it at that.

I would be more than happy to scan my I.D. to prove that i'm over the age of eighteen, but that sadly is not an option that is open to me.

the law here is not quite like that, the censorship does not come from the goverment it comes from the publishers. it is copletly legal to own an uncensored game in germany. i postet an why is that in another thrad i just copy/paste it here.

It works like that
in germany every videogame needs an an rating from the USK to be sold or advertised the ratings are 0, 6, 12, 16 and 18.

for every game to be checked the publiusher needs to pay for it (not an insignificant amount). if the game gets checked and dont achieve any rating it cant be openly sold or advertised in germany. so if a game doesnt pass the check the publisher loses money.

so they are forced to alter it so that it gets a rating. if the game gets checked and dont pass they need to send in another "updated" version they have to pay the USK again and to avoid that most publishers send cut versions first to save money and just get their rating even through the uncut version may have passed the test.

the ratings are sometimes realy insane there was a game once that received absolutly no rating @ all so the publisher gutted theyr game so hard it jumped instantly from no rating to 16 wich is absolutly ridiculous.

it is sad that so many people still paying for the cut versions of their games, to end this insanity every cut game should just be boycotted in germany and just importet for something to change.
