gamepad not working properly/how to configure gamepad?

I tried playing this game with a gamepad and it wont work properly. Just so you guys know its not a xbox 360 controller just a regular gamepad. I hate playing with mouse and keyboard so if anyone could please help me configure the controller on this game because for some reason this game doesent allow that.

the best idea is to get an xbox 360 controller it will also work with alot of different steaem games.

oh ok, i have a wireless xbox 360 controller. Can i use that one without having to connect a usb/wire? also i just bought that gamepad and its pretty sad it didnt work lol.

You are taking it the wrong way dude. What i meant to say is that playing a game like saints row is pretty hard for me with mouse and keyboard. I hate playing with mouse and keyboard on SOME specific games not all. Anyways i found a temporarily fix for this. I'm using a xbox360 controller emulator to emulate the controller, I can now use my gamepad cuz the game is thinking its a 360 controller lol.

Ah sure, always pisses me off when PC gamers only use controllers, just seems contridictary. But cool are you using Linux, that could be the issue?

(Btw I find the game easier with keyboard and mouse, but yeah preference)

No, im using Windows. I think this is just one of those games that exclusively supports X360 controllers, but thanks for helping anyways.

Im using a dual shock 2 with an adapter and the game remaps the analogs and X and O so X is B and O is A its the same with SRIV any help?

One thing i hate about some pc games now, its all xbox controller this and that, and they don't give the option to use a different controller or configure it to how the player wants it.

well. here's the thing, I HAVE a 360 WIRED controller and the game WON'T RESPOND TO THE GAMEPAD DESPITE THE FACT I CAN SKIP CUTSCENES WITH THE BUTTONS!?!?

It doesn't matter if i DO have one, my XBOX 360 CONTROLLER WONT WORK ON THE GAME BECAUSE WHY VOLITRON!?!?

for other non-xbox 360 controllers: use a controlelr emulator, (such as x360ce, wich is free) and emulate your controller as an xbox 360 controller, if done correctly, it'll work with any game compatible with xbox 360 controllers,

For wireless xbox controllers: you'll need an xbox 360 controller dongle

for wired controllers not responding: if it's a third party controller, some games do mess up with them, in that case, x360ce should fix that, if official, reset controls to defaults, then try playing again.
