I haven't QuickTime, iTunes or any another application which was in this thread suspected for troublemaking.
I run on DX9, GF240GT 512MB, AMD 64 X2 3600+, 3GB RAM, WinXP SP3.
I agree, for the first time I was palyed about few hours without crash.
1.) I made sure my graphics driver was up to date.
2.) I made sure my DirectX was up to date and re-ran the installer just in case. The installer is in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\saints row the third\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe
3.) I made sure my c++ 2008 redistributable was up to date and re-ran the installer just in case. The installer is in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\saints row the third\vcredist_x86.exe
4.) I made sure my audio for playback devices was set to 24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality)
5.) I also read that one cause of the crash was because the game was trying to pull system information from your computer during start up in order to configure the display.ini. For some reason this can cause a crash due to certain rights privileges. To get past that error you must change the defaults of the display.ini, which is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\saints row the third\display.ini
Copy and past this underneath the hashtag comments:
ResolutionWidth = 1440
ResolutionHeight = 900
RefreshRate = 60
MSAA_Level = 1
Fullscreen = false
Preset = 4
You can change the resolution to what ever your want. Save and restart your computer. If your game works you can change the graphics settings in the menu later.
I hope this fixes some of your guys' problems in regards to crashing after the logo.
The only thing that changed was the intro was windowed instead of full screen but right after intro still crash.
As for updating video drivers and c++ the game worked when I had the old drivers anyway but all my stuff is up to date regardless.
Still no go for me but thanks for the info.
The only thing I can think of is windows 7 update might have put in something saints row does not like but all my other games that worked still do. All except saints row.
Regardless I don't think i'll bother purchasing the new game coming out. If the old game doesen't work now and it did then then it's Steam or a change in the game itself and it's no guarentee that the new game will work either and as for me i'm sick of buying games that won't work. It's just a waste of money and a bitter frustration.I'm tired of these game hosts pissing on me and telling me it's direct x. If the games don't work on your computer at least you should get a replacement game that does work or a refund. 'nuff said.
