Game won't launch!
My game won't even launch. I have tried validating, which always fails 2 files. Always. I have reinstalled SR3, Steam, AND Windows for that matter, all to no avail. Help? :(

hi Mar 30, 2013 @ 8:52pm
I am having the same problem.. I run the game from inside Steam, and then I have the option to choose Direct X 10 & 11, or Direct X 9. I have tried both, and the opening cinematics play fine. But after the cinematics finish I get that lovely pop-up saying Saints Row has stopped working. This problem is so common one would think they would provide a guide on how to fix this.. Unfortunately there is not, and were left to fend for ourselves..

You get farther than I do sadly :( I don't even get the pop-up box to select DX9 or 11. I get a white block in the middle of my screen, and then nothing happens. At all. :(

That sucks man. Hopefully we can figure this problem out. I know that IF I find a fix for this problem I will be sure to make a guide for others. It's quite sad Steam or Volition Games haven't created one yet.
I wonder why steam hasn't made a note of this problem and tried to fix it, this has been happening to me for a while now. I was really looking forward to playing SR3 and now I don't get to. Hopefully someone can find a cure for this problem.

Finally someone else has the exact same problem I've been having. I bought this game a long time ago and have yet to be able to play it. :(

I had the same problem and I fixed it by right clicking Saints Row:The Third in Steam and clicking "Properties" the clicking the "Local Files" tab and clicking "Verify Integrity..."
Hope this helps"

I haven't download the game myself, so can someone tell me if the above works before I download the game?

In my case, verifying integrity just fails every time. For 2 files.

So I need to install this to my C drive. I'm thinking that would be ideal. I figure it is one of those games that doesn't like external HD's or just being mapped to a different drive in general than the C. It's so broken that these games are like this... I will try to dowload the game and paste the directory to my alternative folder in steam. :P Wish me luck . :)

Hope that works out for you! I have my whole Steam install on an external drive, so that could be the issue. Perhaps I will have to put Steam on my SSD and use symlinks. Let me know if it works for you!

Update: Installed to my SSD, game worked great. Moved to other drive with SteamMover, and no dice. Launcher doesn't even come up.

Got it solved. I was using a 4TB external HDD. I took the drive out of the enclosure and popped it in my tower. All problems are now solved.

I tried to copy the whole game over to the C folder but steam doesn't recognize it at all in the C drive. It just asks to install it again. So I don't know what to do.

Have you tried a utility like SteamTool or Steam Mover to move your game? Those helped me when manually moving them caused issues.

I will look into it, thanks for the suggestion. :D
