SR3 only runs on a C: drive? SERIOUSLY?!?
I bought the Saints Row bundle during Steam's holiday sale, because while I have SR3 on the PS3 I don't have any of the DLC, and this was cheaper than buying DLC through the PSN store. Plus, I figured PC version, 1920x10280 all would be grand.

Well, it's not. The damned game won't run. Like, at all. Just does that stupid crash after selecting DX10-11 or DX9. This is after doing the secondary installs that Steam recommends, and verifying the local file cache, and running Steam as an admin, and running SR3 as an admin. I'm on a 64-bit Windows 7 rig with an I7 and 16gb of RAM, so I'm way past the specs. The game should...just...f***ing work.

From what I can tell, it looks like the game only wants to run on the C: drive. Well, guess what? I don't have that option. I ahve a small (128gb) SSD as my C: drive, and it's strictly for the OS. I don't have the option of running SR3 or any other large game from C. And, let's be honest, I shouldn't HAVE to. There is no reason why a programming team with even a tenth of an IQ point between them couldn't have made the game run on whichever drive the user picks. You know, like ALL of the OTHER games I own on Steam.

I'm posting this partly to vent, and partly in the slight hope of finding some workaround to this game's DOS-era inflexibility. If anyone has any suggestions that don't amount to "buy a larger SSD" I'd really appreciate the info.

Yeesh, I thought EA screwed up with the C&C bundle on Origin...

I have my SR3 installed to D:. It worked fine last night. Something something user error.

I have SRTT installed on D: and I'm able to run it right now without any problems.
I've added steam library folder on D: drive and installed SRTT into it.
Have you tried to run integrity check?

Sorry to deflate the rant but yo're just wrong... Works fine on other drives.

That's not to say it isn't buggy. Just that you've mis-identified the bug :)

Mine is installed to E which is where I put most other large pieces of content since it's the largest RAID Array.

Obviously, I assumed you have created a Steam library on the target drive you want to play SR3 on.

There hasn't been a need to use Symbolic Links with Steam since they added that feature to create a library wherever you want and every game I own works fine on C, E, I, J, or M.

As others have said, it DOES work on other drives. I even originally installed it on the C drive, and did the risky buisness of moving it to the D drive without reinstalling, So there is probably something wrong with your d drive. If you haven't already a delete and re-install should help. If not, you may be stuck with going to a store and getting a flash drive, big enough for the game (12 GB or 16 GB) and installing it on that because that means something is wrong with your D drive.

Before ranting like a lunatic, perhaps you should validate the installation to ensure all files installed correctly... Sometimes ♥♥♥♥ happens and they become corrupted during transfer with digital downloads...

I have Steam installed to my D: drive and, by default, all Steam games automatically install to D: drive unless I specifically change this myself during the installation process...

SR3 works perfectly fine for me from D: drive and always has...

Before claiming user error, perhaps one might consider reading my post where I say I validated the install, ran the secondary installers, ran the game in admin mode, etc., etc. In other words, every solution that anyone has ever posted online for SR3 to work on the PC. The only one I haven't tried is the one that involves moving the game folder to C: instead of its current location on my secondary drive.

It isn't an issue with my SSD, since it has no issues with any other apps. Moreover, if anything was going to not play nice with a buggy drive, it would be Windows.

So, to clarify:

1) I've validated the local install files...twice. It was the first thing I did, as that has sometimes been the solution to problems with other Steam games.

2) I've verified that the secondary installers are present, and I've run them;

3) I've run the game in admin mode;

4) I've run Steam in admin mode;

5) I've run the game in Windows XP SP3 compatability mode (which is what Win 7 suggested when troubleshooting compatability);

6) I've made sure my drivers are updated (my video drivers check for updates independently)

This is a Windows 7 64-bit rig with an I7 3.4ghz, 16gb of Ram, and an ATI Radeon 7700 with 1GB. I have a slew of other Steam and Origin games installed, no issues with any of them (other than the C&C anthology pack, which got FUBAR'd by Origin).
