My Steelport and how removing it was volition's way of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ us off
Little pathetic rant that nobody probably cares about, but i personally feel like Volition gave us the middle finger by removing My Steelport. It states :

---

We have made the decision to close the My Steelport server. This means character and screenshot sharing services in Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV will no longer be available after January 31st 2018.

The decision to switch off the servers was difficult for us and not taken lightly. We want our fans to enjoy our work for as long as possible. However more than 4 years after Saints Row IV released, we have experienced a significant reduction in the numbers of players using these services.

We believe our resources are now better spent on preparing for the future! We'd like to thank everyone who has used and enjoyed the content sharing and community features on SaintsRow.com for their support.

--
UPDATE: The server shutdown has been completed, and the website updated to remove the associated features. With over 30 million character and screenshot uploads over the last six years, we appreciate all of your support. Thanks for playing, and thanks for sharing your creations with the community.

----

Now that might seem like an innocent statement, its basically volition telling us that AOM was a financial mistake so we had to cut funds despite the fans wanting My Steelport because we can. I might be a little vague but they could have atleast told us in advance properly instead on relying on mrsaintsgodzilla21 (shoutout to him) to give it to us. Years of screenshots and character customisations are gone because of Volitions lack of care. Also 1 month isnt enough to save all of your ♥♥♥♥ from the past 6 years. I think im ranting way too much right now, but it was a ♥♥♥♥ move from volition i personally think. RIP My Steelport.
----

(i have read this properly and i know they said they didnt find it easy to get rid of it, but they did lie in the past by saying AOM was a great game.)

(i also hope this means a new saints row but i doubt it, probably a spin off like the cooler that will never take off.)

My Steelport was pointless anyway, outside of downloading/uploading characters. Saying Volition just gave the finger to the fans is absurd. It's not like they didn't work their asses off to get My Steelport back up and running in the first place, right? Oh wait, that's exactly what they did.

Online features like that eventually end and go offline, particularly for games that are single player or co-op focuse and don't have as huge a playerbase as they used to.

Side note: I think AoM is a great game (even though I had to play it at a friends house due to my laptop not being able to run it) and I'd like Volition to make a new IP that is succesful as opposed to milking Saints Row to death when it's already become a shell of its former self.

I’m upset by this too, I spent so much time making characters it was like a game unto itself. If I had a heads up I could have saved more of my characters in my que, but I only was able to salvage 3. I asked if they were going to patch the game so characters could be saved to the character gallery directly, but they said no. I'm hoping modders can make that a possibility.

Never rely on an online service, EVER. They come and go. Don't expect them to be there in the future. If a service doesn't make money for a company, they will discontinue it. It's as simple as that.

If you really care about saving something, you need to keep your own local copy. End of story.
You can't really blame them. From the get-go I doubt many people even used my steelport, I know I didn't. Because it wasn't really necessary and it took a little bit of time to set up. Something many probably couldn't be bothered to do.

It shouldn't come as a surpise too. I'm actually shocked the service was open for 4 whole years after saints row 4.
Saying volition did it as a middle finger to fans though is just blatantly wrong and ignorant to even say so. Servers cost money to keep up, and in the end someone have to pay for those services.
I don't have numbers for how many were using the service at time of shutting down but it can't have been many and made shutting the servers down a no-brainer.

You can't save a local copy, thats the problem. The game is programed so you have to use the website.
