Dark seas shouldn't be dead
Everyone knows dark seas is a dead game. obsidian ocean went from the most popular ocean to completely dead fast. I feel like if constant updates like other MMOs do where happening, dark seas would be able to regain its player base. I'm not saying new pets or anything, real updates. A few examples I would say that could potentially really bring this game back is a new fighting puzzle, its been just rumble and sword fighting for the longest time. IF there was a new fighting puzzle added, it could definitely interest new and returning players. An idea of how to do this is possibly like puzzle league, but with a puzzle pirates twist, or like puzzle and dragons, but applicable as a fighting puzzle, or even possibly making the puzzle and dragons like puzzle a alternative to bilge. This would make all voyages more enjoyable, since pillages you can add another form a fight rather than just the brigands and barbarians, and for something like CI instead of rumble, SF, rumble, SF, that can get thrown in the rotation as well. Or possibly a new voyage option around this fighting puzzle. The second content update Id recommend is adding big events that happen every weekend to bring players online for the weekend. Blockades usually bring players online because of the good pay, but something where you can win things, and is controlled by other pirates. and the third content update Id recommend is, of course, a graphical overhaul, at least an option to bring the graphics up near modern day indie games. This game has mostly the same graphics as it did all the way back in 2003. It needs to look more modern after all these years. also some small changes I would recommend is higher pay for flotillas, or possibly turn this into a huge change and add a new dimension to flotillas, similar to greedys from pillages. Also for dark seas, a nerf to wagers, so that a few pirates don't end up owning 99% of the wealth in the game like what unfortunately happened to the original puzzle pirates. Then of course, what is the point of adding fresh new content if nobody knows about it? I think some form of advertisement of some kind would help this game tremendously and let the game be more known out there. and lastly, of course, what everybody keeps telling three rings, we need puzzle pirates to come to mobile. And not just a glitchy iPad port, but a port to work on all mobile devices including android, and with how far technology has gone, it should be easier to put such a huge game into your pocket nowadays. I think all of these changes over a certain period of time with a roadmap that players know of can truly help both this game get more players and more enjoyable and in turn give your development team more money in your pockets. But of all these changes, I feel advertising your game would be the easiest and most effective way to bring players into the game. Maybe even make all this content exclusive to dark seas, so more players can stick to that ocean and bring everyone from other oceans to there. Make Puzzle Pirates great again. :)

tbh they messed up so bad with dark seas its ridiculous.. it was so populated in the start but nothing was happening on it. there was no islands to populate at all etc.....

i doubt they will be able to make it in again, and people will just stay on normal emerald ..

The problem is they brought back some kind of PvP but they didn't bring back the more sand-boxy elements like foraging on islands for REAL resources. Man, it could have been great. But like the OP said, they keep coming out with pets.

Like, really?

What made Puzzle Pirates popular in the first place? It was the SANDBOX. The risk of actually having to transport your PoE and setup your business, when you actually used BANKS for something other than Dubs.

I had high hopes. I didn't expect everything, but I expected more actual content or community support. Neither of which materialized. Sad.

Two big things that will actually fix this game.

Give the Shops that dont have Puzzle Jobs exactly that, Puzzle Jobs, Balacksmithing was not included originally neither was weaving. Rumble was also an added Puzzle. There needs to be more of that done, not forgotten about you stupid devs.

Two, this is digital, there is no real wheat grown over months harvested processed and made and exsisting and maybe going expired. You can make 1000 dubs in a few keystrokes. Make pillys fun again, make it 2k+ a battle for the jobber and a increase for the ship poe and booty. That will get the game going again but nah you want to force a grind that doesnt yeild much so its hard and slow to achive things anything especcially with dubs so screwed uo.

Off an on player of a very long time here. I had the urge to come back and play PP. I'd like to say it comes as a shock to see the state the newest game is in, but it doesn't :/
So...as a new player:Is the game getting shutdown soon?
Will it receive updates?
Are the devs trying to bring back some players somehow?
Dont want to start now, just to lose everything again, when the game shuts down.
If it does get shutdown, will there be some kind of compensation for people who want to switch over to the origial PP?

PS:Yes,im aware there is a different puzzle pirates version.
But since this one is more pvp focused and newer(not so much to catch up with,as a newbie),id like to stay here instead.
Uh,and i kinda like the darker theme.

this one has less content than the original, that is one of the reasons it got abandoned by the playerbase. by the looks of it, i would play the original, until three rings decided to do something to make this version better than the orignal

the best thing would be to rebuild the whole game from scratch with new graphics and an engine. this game is so freaking unique - i wonder why no devs build a similar game.

I mean; as always the greed of money making systems in games kill things off for a casual player base, when you learn how badly inflated the economy for dubs becomes, its no wonder no one wants to play.

I have some of the best memories growing up playing this game, and I would love to see it blossom again, why not remove the premium currency system behind it, make it way more casual, make more PvE content like how Atlantis raids worked and stuff like that, and Treasure hunting etc. Make it all free to play and actually worth peoples time, and then go nuts on the whole cosmetics for real money thing without taking away customisation options for the players, there is many successful models out there, don't let go of something that could be great.

Making it way more casual is what killed the game.

PoE used to have to be transported ; Removed and people left
Resources used to be foraged ; Removed and people left
It was hard to navigate the world, what Island you were on MATTERED ; Removed (added whisking potions) and people left
Lots of cute pets were flooded into the market ; Added and people left
Ships used to die forever (no salvaging) ; Removed and people left
They made it easier to sail alone ; And people still left

THIS GAME LOST ITS IDENTITY. IT WAS A GIANT PVP SANDBOX WHEN IT WAS GOOD. NOW ITS JUST A PILE OF CARE-BEAR GARBAGE THAT NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY.

Sorry, I just have to yell this to the moon. They have only listened to "Make it more casual" for the last 10 years and it has NEVER worked.

yeah bet the game would be 1000x more fun if there was no whisking potions or galleries and such for fast travel. I still love the game as is but that is something that would have been better without.

No amount of flogging this dead horse is going to bring it back to life. Just face facts, the party is over.

lol they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the moment they released a "new" game which was exactly the same as the old game. It was basically a new ocean. Who does that? I don't blame people for sticking to the old game, it's where they had all their stuff and achievements. I don't think they'll be adding new content any time soon if at all, all we'll get is vanity items until the game is clogged up with so much useless ♥♥♥♥ like rum jugs people won't be bothered playing it again. It is what it is, the game is on life support. The only solution I see for the game is to release a portable version, which they were doing back in the days and then decided it wasn't worth it or something. An injection of new players would revitalize the game for sure. A new puzzle or game mode won't do anything to increase the playerbase of a 15 year old game way past its golden days.
