ECHO
Is there an easy mode?
I'm super interested in this game but not gonna lie, this ♥♥♥♥ looks haunting. Because it took me six months to beat Alien Isolation (I played for, like, twenty minute spirts once a week b/c it freaked me out so much), I don't want to dole out 20 on a game I won't beat til next year when it's on a 60% sale. Therefore, I've got to ask: is there an easy mode? Or any component that makes the whole tense atmosphere a little less daunting?

I just got the game and didnt even installed it yet, but from what i gather from videos and reviews its not a horror game but a sci-fi stealth.

It's horror, regardless of what its official genre labels are. Being scared by something is subjective, after all, and this game's core premise freaks me out lol

There is an Easy mode. I played it on Normal and even as a relatively experienced gamer, found the going pretty tough especially toward the end of the game. Took me about 9 hours, according to Steam. And yes this is very much a stealth game, similar in Gameplay to say Hitman when you don't want to be spotted.

Did you give easy a try ever? Is it moderately less scary to the point where an easily frightened gamer like myself might be able to handle it?

Game is not about Jumpscares, but making you creeped out. And they cut away early in the death scenes. And it doesn't drag on with ~8 hours of play. You can finish Echo.

Haven't finished the game on the hardest mode, but I would say this game is naturally pretty easy. Sure, it depends on the actions you take, but the IA is dumb and easy to counter once you understand the basic ennemy. Most of the time, as it depends of the structure of the levels. In fact, if you don't want to search all the collectibles, you will probably end the game in 10 hours or something like that and won't die a lot: indead, if you rush the game, the ennemies won't have the time to get a lot of abillities before you're long gone. And even if you take your times, you WON'T even die in every levels. Haven't count, but I would say in 30 hours, I died somelike like 20-25 times, and some of these deaths were very stupid AND/OR made by choice.

And I confirm this game is not realy scary. Sure, if you're the kind to be easy scarred, you can piss you. The first 10 minutes, during the night-part of the cycle. After that, not that much (in fact, the more eassiest modes allows you to do nothing during night but stay in a place secure). In the worst case scenario, you get a scan very usefull and with a great range. In a lot of levels, if you're carefull, you won't be take by surprise by the ennemy.

He's right. Its possible to just rush the game and find it really easy. If you don't mind dying, you can even brute force your way through mindlessly. Note that stealth is essential for the final stages so stealth is compulsory for game completion even though you can ignore it for maybe 80% of the game.

That said, you'll be missing out on all the fun of the game if you played this way. I've seen negative reviews by players who obviously rushed the game and found it un-fun. So its safe to say the game is not worth buying if you plan on rushing through it. I can't imgaine why its a good idea to spend money but just rush thorugh a game, to be honest.

The game can be creepy and you sometimes get jumpscare if you get spotted by an enemy you didn't knew was there but the game is not horror in any sense.

Was it necessary? Oh, well. Not like the Echo forum gets any traffic. We could use something new on the front page. Even if it is from 2017.

Since I`m here I guess I`ll go ahead and give my opinion on the topic. Echo isn`t a horror game and yes, their is an easy mode.

He means you usually don't explicitly see the actual moment of "death". The animation fades to black as you hear the main char scream, but you usually don't see anything beyond her getting physically overwhelmed by the enemy.

To the point where, in most cases, it's actually ambiguous how (or even if) she's killed. The echos put their hands on her face, and then....? Personally I find this creepier than an explicit death, as it asks you to imagine what kind of stuff a place like this might do with a person besides just killing them. Are they just suffocating her, or are they, say, sucking her mind out through their palms to be used for some other purpose?

Main exceptions IIRC is getting shot (no blood, but but it's on-screen and pretty straightforwardly a killing blow), and getting caught by a golden echo, which, well, you know....

what about when they use stealth takedowns?

I've never had one use a stealth takedown on me, so I've no idea how the animation is edited.

The stealth takedown you use on them (and therefore I assume they use on you) is a brief chokehold. IIRC Ein only holds it just long enough for them to black out, then releases immediately when they do, so not lethal unless there were other factors present. IRL that would only knock a person out for like ~20 seconds- sort of like a really bad head rush. Provided she does her chokeholds correctly (cutting off blood flow, not air flow), which given her past, I'd be inclined to assume she would.

I'd assume they mimic the way she does it, so they knock her out, then do whatever it is they do when they normally catch her, whether that's lethal or otherwise. So it's as ambiguous as the "hands on face" thing.
