This vs Shrapnel Games version ?

What's the relation between the Steam version and the Shrapnel Games version of this game?

Are they the same games or two separate products (different or the same devs, updates, etc)?

E.g. If the Shrapnel Games game gets an update, will the Steam version also get the same update, and the other way round?

Shrapnel ver does not get any updates anymore. The game was also taken off the Shrapnel website. So, there's no choice between versions, except that Shrapnel one is old.

Considering the price people paid for the Shrapnel version I think they should get updates without having to buy the game again on Steam.
