Importing .OBJ files: issues & optimization?
Hello!

Couple of questions. First - importing files. I've been having trouble with it, though I should note that these files are converted .wire files coming from Autodesk Alias (Surface.) They open in Blender so I know they work, but nothing in the import library folder will show up. Is there a size limit?

Which brings me to my other question - I can open these files from the desktop menu, and that seems to work, however: Gravity Sketch ends up running super slow and the graphics glitch out (framerate drop, controller overlays don't work, very choppy movement.) The .obj is 27 MB. Too big?? I've tried exporting models from GS and they appear to be much larger file sizes, so I think it may be somethign else... something in the exporting, something I'm not optimizing, etc.

I have access to a beefier desktop I can test this on but I feel like this machine SHOULD be able to handle it. The .obj itself is a scale vehicle chassis file that is a relarivley simple model with a few tube frames, seat, wheels, etc - nothing very complicated. The idea is to have a chassis I can sketch/model bodywork concepts over.

(Since I have the pro version for now, I'll be trying .IGES in a bit. Will update if that ends up workng better.)

Specs for reference:
GPU:GTX 1060.
CPU: i7-6700HQ
RAM: 32GB

Any help would be great. Thanks!!

We have similar issues with getting CAD exported as OBJ into GS Pro smoothly, either with the sluggish performance issue or the not importing at all you mention. We also want to import only at 1:1 scale, which is currently only possible once at the start of a session by using the dekstop interface.
I don't think the pro version includes IGES importing.
So we also would like improvements in the importing of CAD data also and hope it happens soon as it's limited our use significantly recently.

The 1.1 update should improve a lot of these issues, please share with us and obj files that don't work correctly so we can figure out how to fix them!

Is there a way to turn down the rendering resolution? I have some 100 mg + .obj files I would like to edit in Gravity Sketch. I can use my desktop with SteamVR, but it would be awesome if I could do the same thing without the desktop on my Quest 2. I am okay with sacrificing some of the detail in the real time rendering to make that happen.
