L4D2 beta for linux is very slow on intel ironlake's GPU
Using the last development branch of MESA (version 9.2), it is possible to run L4D and team fortress 2 on any first generation intel GPU. However, L4D for linux is very slow comparing to the windows version (it is unplayable in linux when there is lots of zombies).
I noticed that windows uses 100% of CPU all the time while running the game, but the linux version uses only 20% of CPU during the most intensive parts of the game.
Is it possible to use more of the CPU power to improve the graphics on linux?

Same here, SandyBridge, Macbook Air 13", intel HD3000, Ubuntu 12.04.2.
Terrible performance, no matter what settings I set, unplayable.

I will try to enable xorg-edgers, but I do not want to use it regulary, as it can break my Ubuntu.
Now I have lts-quantal (xorg) enhancement enabled and lts-raring (linux) enhancement enabled.

I have third gen CPU (so HD 4000 GPU) and the game freezes for one second from time to time in the worst possible moment so it's kind of unplayable

I think its because of the many things in it. It's possible to run a giant map and the game is functional (not fast but playable) on last man on earth ON A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NETBOOK

afaik L4D2 uses a later version of OpenGL in the Linux port that is not supported by first gen integrated Intel HD cards.
