Using SteamCMD to download workshop mods? Linux Dedicated Server
I've seen videos/guides of other games being able to download workshop mods, getting things like a .gma or .bin, and able to open them with a 7zip file and get everything they need to move to their addon folder.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do this with L4D2? I've tried downloading a mod, and I get a _legacy.bin file, that is completely useless and does nothing. I can't open it with 7zip or anything.

Adding to this:

While not an ideal way to do this, it seems taking the _legacy.bin file and forcing it to be renamed to ID.vpk (example: 656993383.vpk) and putting it into the L4D2 workshop folder seems to work. I hate this, though.

Actually other than using steamcmd, there's also a way to download workshop mods from sites simply by copying the mod link. Search google with "steamworkshop download" & you'll find some sites that help download mods. The format is still ".vpk"

Those websites could eventually go down (Steam has taken one of them down before), and that would require more coding to download from those websites. As well, I'm not even sure if those websites are just doing the same thing I am doing, as in using SteamCMD to download a .bin file, and renaming it to a .vpk then providing the download.
