could anyone point me to a mod or a scrip where i could use shift to sprint rather than walk... if it can be done at all... ty

well I read it and don't understand it thats all. But I don't think its possible, since you would have to mess with the base speed of the character. It maybe could be done with a script. Like if you press shift the game recognizes it as you releasing shift. I search around the internet for a while.
But really why you want to walk by default and sprint with shift?

Ok I found a solution. Shift will toggle then if you walk or sprint. Also you don't have to hold down shift then. you just need to press it once to sprint and another time if you want to walk again.

just add the following lines of code at the end of the autoexec.cfg located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg


alias "Speed+" "+speed; bind "SHIFT" "Speed-""
alias "Speed-" "-speed; bind "SHIFT" "Speed+""
bind "SHIFT" "Speed+"
