Pasword protected servers

Is there an easy way to have our own server password protected in order to prevent unwanted people to join our versus games ? Thanks

I guess you would have to create your own dedicated server, or host one. You can apply passwords to servers that you own.

How ? A friend of mine has created a server, he managed to install mods on it, but could not find a way to password protect it. When it's password protevted, how do we log on ?

I'm not sure if sv_password command is actually working correctly in L4D2, last I had heard it was broken, but that would've been early last year though, you could test it. Get your friend to put sv_password "xxxxx"; in their server.cfg replacing xxxxx with whatever you want the password to be. I'm not 100% sure how it works but I think when the client connects they have to enter sv_password "xxxxx" as well (assuming it even works).
