Gamepad not working??????
maybe it's something i'm missing, but my Xbox wireless controller isn't working with left 4 dead 2, it works perfectly with the first left 4 dead game. i have checked in the settings where it says gamepad is enabled. so i am a bit lost to what the problem might be. I hope that someone in the community can help :)

I just tried using my Xbox wireless gamepad too. It works in the menus, but not in game, because the keys are not bound (configured) for the gamepad by default, just the keyboard & mouse. Also the right hand stick doesn't look around or do anything. I wish this game allowed in the menu to bind a key, such as Mouse1 and R_trigger to both fire, not either / or.

I've played a ton of both these games on the Xbox, and am using the microphone which connects to the controller. Kinda sucks L4D2 doesn't automatically map the existing Xbox controls for me so I could easily test and decide which I prefer- mouse & kb, or gamepad.

Go into game as normal in game either hit start key on gamepad or esc key from there options/mouse & keyboard. disable gamepad & re enable go back into game & hey presto everything works. worked for me.

try this then.... fire up ur gamepad before u enter the game start left 4 dead 2 in the start of game movie press the start button on your gamepad. that should sync ur gamepad to the game.

i think it's got something to do with skipping the intro with the controller. all i could do was move with the left stick, nothing else. didn't matter how many times i restarted and such.
solution- started the game, hit escape to skip the cinematics THEN enabled the gamepad. works fine now.

To make it work, try closing the game, plug in your controller and open Big Picture mode. After that

It worked for me.

Hi I Found the solution, it is Strange but it is that simple: first step: start the game, go to setting disable controller/gamepad, make sure the contrôller is still connected
Step 2:quit the game
Step 3: start the game and presse start with contrôller(it Will automatically activate back you pressing start)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
