why people join and go idle?
I just don't get it.. isn't it fun to play?.. rather than just going idle thru the whole campaign?.. feels like it's a new trend where all players go idle as soon as the round starts..

sometimes people cant play for some reason like the have homework or dinner and the dont want to leave the game

True, but if they are away for more than a few minutes they should quit, so they wont keep other players from joining

Sometimes life calls, and keeps you longer than you planned.

I do not want to sound like the bad guy here. But MOST players I see go idle are the ones that exploit the bot warping. Another thing that most people do not know is when you go idle, all stats during a campaign do not count. This is both positive & negative. On the positive side, any idle player that has the bot controlling them will also try to kill SI. But if the idle bot kills the SI, it does NOT count towards the player during the end credits. In another words if a idle player kills a Hunter, it will NOT give 1 Hunter kill for the idle player. Now for the negative. If the idle player gets incapped and / or dies, it does NOT count against them. I have seen thousands of players get incapped or die, then the end credits say that idle player has 0 incapps. And 0 deaths.

Well there is a thing called " time management ". And i do not considerate a valid excuse for that matter. If you have to go to work. Go have something to eat. Anything like that. Then ration the time so you leave when the game is finished. It's not that hard you know.

100% agree with this.

I sincerely doubt there are ANY players out there idling for sake of stats. Here are probably the common reasons people idle:

a) go afk during loading screen, turns out afk last longer than planned
b) go afk after a game ends, it auto goes to lobby and new people join and vote start
c) idle after game loads to check the party's L4D2 hours, or to watch the team play out the round

There really isn't a reason to take over the bot's control until the round is over (or at least until there is a break between attacks). Most players replacing bots will die rather quickly because they replace a bot with no health, no kit, wrong guns, bad positioning, etc.

There are a few players who "need to go afk" a lot, and it does baffle me as to why they're trying to play a video game when they're that busy IRL. Constantly idling in the game means disappearing medkits and guns, but I guess casuals are okay with it.

then don't join the game by taking a slot which could be taken by another player

amen to this too! lol

it's a lame excuse for being idle thru WHOLE campaign..

sure you can go idle for a few minutes (phone calls, bathroom, etc) but the whole time? that's just unacceptable... and also these idlers go idle as soon as the round starts.. what' up with that?

Wtf? If they're going idle for that long, warn them then start a kick vote.

Well, there is a case where connection isn't exactly phenominal, so some players "go idle" at the start of each map because they're still loading in, fortunately I don't believe I have this problem, and I'm also thankful that I only ever usually play with one person, who has this exact problem, so I can wait on her while she loads in.

i was just making a statement of the "trend" in L4D2 lately.. of course i KICKED them but sometimes they just seem to stay in idle the whole time

not quiet... they go afk more than 5 minutes.. that's intentional.. not the lag... besides i always check their ping which usually is lower 100

When idle your revive attempts are not stopped just by taking damage
When idle you will stay so close to the team and if you go to far you will use magical teleport powers
When idle friendly fire damage done by your gun is 0%
reasons i go idle but i do them for a few seconds to get the task done and start playing nornaly.Wish you could go idle in all modes
AmbitiousGuy Jan 9, 2017 @ 7:00am
I'd go idle if my mum sits next to me
The problem is... If I want to quit I have to open the menu and that is impossible with my mum besides me
So I went idle for the whole game... and still idk if got kicked or not...

Agree, votekick seems ok if idle for more than a few minutes without an explanation. Nothing personal, just a chance to open up the slot for another player.
