Quick question

I played this game when it first came out but I much liked the first game better. But I kinda want to play l4d games again. Did this game improve a lot from what it was in the beginning? And is there a big following to play with?

Valve is shooting it in the head with these updates and servers. The community probably got like 10 times worse as well due to the free weekend(s?) and the sales. Try it out but don't get your hopes up.
