Full Controller Support... suuure

This game does not have full controller support. I'm using a generic controller and I enable controller and it doesn't work properly. I have to use the mouse to select a game and enter a game and when I enter the game the only button that works is the right bumper and it is used to display the players which is like tab. Also I tried using xinput simulator and it works with every single game and makes my controller work properly and it doesn't work with l4d2. It has the same problem. And I heard tons of other people had the same problem as me. This game should not be labeled "full controller support" You have to get all these mods and hacks to make it work.

I know L4D2 fully supports Xbox 360 controllers, as I've used one for 1500+ hrs and it works fine.

Most obvious question first; Have you enabled "Gamepad" in the Keyboard/Mouse menu?

Another thing is that my 360 controller MUST be powered on before I launch the game. I'm guessing the same is true for any wireless controller.

I assume that since you use a 'generic' controller, that it's not an Xbox controller. In that case, you may have to map your controller manually. if you go to: Options>>Keyboard/Mouse>>Edit Keys/Buttons from the main menu, you can map your buttons there.


Oh, just rememberd another thing, some special commands you will have to map to your keyboard, such as Chat/Team Chat, Switch Teams, Spray logo, Vote Yes/No etc...

I have gamepad enabled and I'm using xinput to make it look like my controller is an xbox 360 controller which works for all the other games I have. And when I manually edit it doesn't edit the right camera stick. And usually I don't like manually editting because then sometimes I want to play on the pc and I have to change the controls again.

I made it work with PS4 controller, so im sure it would be the same for a generic controller.

Sometimes its steam and not the game.

Try this, with Steam open connect the controller to all usb pors until message appears recomending you to use big picture mode for controller support. Should work then if its not recocgnised as a Playstaion or Xbox pad.

Hopefully someone could help me with a problem I just got yesterday. I opened L4D2 and I forgot my fightstick was connected to my PC, and I also forgot to turn on my controller(XBOX1). This messed up my settings somehow. I had it set up where the XBOX 1 controller had the same layout as the 360, except ducking requires 1 press, and clicking on the left analog has the survivor point out whats in front.

The controls were now absent. I turned off the game and then back on, and nothing. Restarted PC, and nothing again. I went to big picture mode and enabled XBOX1 and generic gamepad. Its close, but this made things worse. Also, the STEAM CONTROLLER option is no longer blurred. dont know how to disable it, and I think thats the main source of my problem, as everything was fine for years having that option inaccessible.



Here is the list of things that happened to the controller:

1. Y button now scrolls down the list of HUD items (It used to just cycle through primary and secondary weapons. Now it goes through med kit, pills, molotov)

2. LB now has to be held down to duck

3. RB does not quick turn

4. Right Stick is overly sensitive when looking around

5. directional pad no longer works in the main menu at all

I would also like to add that I tried copy/pasting the "360 controller.ini" notepad setting someone has posted back in 2012, and it doesnt work for me.

Asking for help to fix this, I just want to revert back to my old controller settings.

Thanks to The Last Stand update, there is now proper Controller Support!

Aside of regular fixes and new Game Actions (such as Joystick-style Camera and Reset Camera), there is 3 new Configs for Xbox One, DualShock 4 and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers, and the Default Layout is much closer to the Xbox 360 Controller Layout.

for DualShock 4 and Nintendo Switch specifically, Gyro Aiming is now enabled by default.

my issue was Bluetooth xbox controller wasnt working figured out i just had to connect controller before booting the game. hope thay helps someone. also enable gamepad in main menu-0ptions-keyboard/mouse-gamepad-enable.
