Crashing after cutscenes
After the Valve cut scene, then the LFD2 cut scene, I get a second of the game select screen then it crashes out back to the Steam mainscreen. I've tried verifying the cache and deleting everything but Steamapps folder/steam.exe, restarting the computer then loading from steam.exe. It worked perfectly earlier in the week and nothing has been changed apart from the usual steam updates.

Try checking your local game files, it might have missed something

I'm not getting any error codes, just a plain crash back to the steam main page. Pownur, thanks for replying but other than seeing that there are files in my local game files folder how do I check them?

Tried that as well Gamer, still no go. I'll post whatever reply I get back from Valve when it arrives.

Success. I found an old file I'd kept suggesting what's printed below. Click on yes to replace the ones that are there as mine were two years old in the destination folder, whereas the coped ones were up to date. Thanks to whoever posted that original tip, here it is.

I struggled with this error after the new patch and have finally come across a solution! I tried to verify the game cache, reinstall etc. etc., but to no avail...
It seems that the problem is a .exe file searching for the matchmaking files in the wrong folder.

To fix:
1.Go to your Steam folder>left 4 dead 2>left4dead2>bin
2.Copy the four .dll files (matchmaking.dll, client.dll, matchmaking_ds.dll and server.dll) and paste them in Steam folder>left 4 dead 2>bin

Problem solved! Hope this helps some of you!
