can pirated versions of l4d2 be played online?

im not asking this with intent to pirate this game. im just curious since i see so many players with numbers for name and they plays like this is their first time playing a video game

I did notice a huge influx of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the discussions pages with a string of numbers for their name that doesn't match up to their profile name.

Thats just steam failing to show their name so it shows their profile ID number instead.

a thing i see in common with all of these people is that their accounts are level 0, so its prolly happening cuz their account is restricted

I don't know, and I see no reason to pirate this game, hell it's even dirt cheap right now because of the anniversary sale

Yeah would need to either find dedicated servers that doesn't rely on steam (non-steam) or have you and your mates join a free vpn like hamachi and start a lan server in the same network just to play together.

Ontop of that, you need to make sure both you and your buddies are playing on same version.
