Add-Ons keeps on downloading itself
So my brother and I have L4D2 on each of our account. We play it on the same pc. I play the game with some subscription to the add-ons while my brother doesn't. When I run the game, it downloads the add-ons that I'm subscribed to, and the next time I run the game, it won't downloads the same add-ons again and so on. But when my brother runs the game, it didn't detects any subscription to the add-ons and didn't download any add-ons, which is right. But when it's my turn to play the game again (on my account) the game downloads the add-ons like it was the very first time. This happens constantly every single time my brother played L4D2 (the vanilla one) on his account. It turns out that my addons folder is empty if my brother played the game, but it's filled with my add-ons when I played it. Is that how the game works? If the game didn't detects any subscription to any add-ons on one account, the game just wipe the add-ons folder so another account with add-ons have to download the whole thing again?

I can confirm this "bug" (lets assume it is) since the l4d2 is in the common folder, multiple accounts share the same directory instead of under your account name folder. Since workshop is subscribe on each account, it auto deletes/ adds depending on each account.

The best thing I could think of is to move all your workshop addons (steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons/workshop) to the addon folder before (steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons. Then unsubscribe to any workshop addons you have. This way, it doesnt auto deletes/ download and the addons still work. (It will show addons for your bro when he play too, but he can uncheck everything if he likes vanilla version). One drawback is that you have to check every now and then if the mods you have is updated (which is not likely unless it doesn't work after the next l4d2 patch).

Also hope they have a better way of fixing this in the future.

Thank you for reading my rant and for the reply. Yeah, I do hope this "bug" can get fixed on the next update so modding the game can works perfectly even though there are two or more accounts on one pc.

It happened on every single one that I used, and seeing the others comments, I don't think that's the problem.

use L4Dmaps.com same stuff is there but causes no crashes (for the most part) just bang the VPK in addons folder, only difference is you have to manually update the file if an update comes out.

They have attempted to fix it i think http://store.steampowered.com/news/12127/

Left 4 Dead 2 - Update
Product Update - Valve 17 Dec 2013
An update has been released for Left 4 Dead 2.

- Fixed a file management bug that could cause some users to run out of memory when opening the Addons screen.

I just add the odd game from l4dmaps i have a folder in addons where i store anything im not using called disbled, so i will usually only have the one map at a time to avoid possible problems and they are there when i need them. As for the workshop I gave up on that a long time ago.

There are so much posts like this and no official answer. The worst one should be "We know about this problem".

The problem is that Steam Workshop reads the "Subscribed" items on that user, download the one which he/she subscribed to and delete to items that he/she didn't subscribe to.

i have same problem and this bug still occurred :(

best way would be simply just copy paste whole l4d2 to somewhere, then creating shorcut of its left4dead2.exe and adding "-steam" to shortcut. (which prevents the insecure thing from happening)
