Brightness problem
I try to mess with my brightness and such because it is dark as can be, but nothing works, it stays dark to where I cant see a thing and the flashlight barely helps.

That's the whole point of the game.
They designed it so you have to use your flashlight in some areas.

Are you on Linux? Also, windowed is darker than full screen.

Windows, full screen.

bind x "incrementvar mat_monitorgamma_tv_enabled 0 1 1"

try entering that in console, replace x with whichever key you want to use to toggle gamma.

Edit: assuming you don't know how to enable console:
options > keyboard/mouse > allow developer console [enable]. press tilde (~) to open.

Post screenshot please. Preferably of something you expect to be clearly visible.

Also try to delete your config.cfg file to see if you have some setting messed up (make a backup first or simply rename it). But first make sure you have not downloaded some color correction add-on because they often make maps much darker.

mat_monitorgamma_tv_enabled "1" // this command should increase brightness iirc...

i thought "setting.mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil" "1" might work, but oh well

I'm also stuck at a fixed brightness. Brightness setting does nothing. I'm on Linux, but it seems Windows also has the problem.
