Consistency Error (Finally Solved!)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=355949358

-I would submit a ticket to Steam Support, but I tried completing the Captcha more than 40 times, and there's no way I got it wrong, the words were clear, I made sure it was capped right, and vice versa. I just gave up.-

This keeps popping up every damn time I load up a game, even in singleplayer. I've tried the Verify Game Cache thing, and it didn't work (Most of the time, this never works for anything). I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and that didn't do anything. That's pretty much all the solutions I could've thought of.

If anyone has a solution for me, I beg of you to PLEASE help.

[EDIT]
Crap.
Typing "sv_consistency 0" into the console works, but only for local servers and singleplayer. I still have this issue online.
I disabled all my mods, deleted them all, reinstalled the game, verified my cache, and yet I still can't do absolutely anything with the game online.
I
[EDIT2]
SOLVED.
It turned out I had to unsubscribed to my Steam Workshop mods in order to get everything working.
Very dumb considering I disabled the mods (Unchecking the boxes), and that didn't do anything. Even deleting the mods completely didn't work. Turns out if I'm subscribed to these mods, they will pretty much reinstall every time I launch Left 4 Dead, this very simple thing I failed to realize.
Although, it isn't all my fault, because disabling the mods should've turned them off, since they aren't active when in-game.

Remove all addons.
BreakinBenny Dec 14, 2014 @ 8:17am
You might wanna get the Developer Console and input "sv_consistency 0" (no quotes!). Otherwise, do remove or just unmount your addons. Fast way to do so is from inside the game's Add-on menu, or go to Left 4 Dead 2's game directory under "Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2" and change in the addonlist.txt file.

From the text file, set all quoted 1 values to 0 to disable 'em.

If you've verified your files already, you may want to look for a mod that has a boomer in it; the map Deathcraft was said to have boomer conflict issues, but that was a year or two ago I read about that.

Like Benny said, try turning off consistency. It *shouldn't* make a difference, since you're in single player, but it's worth a try.

You can also try using the console command sv_consistency 0 if you wish to use mods and not have that error. Please note that will only work in single player and while hosting a local server.

It worked with friends online while hosting a local server. I just tried it with over 10 mods running simultaneosly and it worked fine.

I feel like this problem in un-fixable. I even tried this on my other PC and it STILL didn't work. This problem seems completely un-fixable. I've searched EVERYWHERE on Google and no solutions worked, not even for the people who had the issues I did. NONE. This is ridiculous, how can these mods possibly make a game THIS unplayable. I've only just got this game a week ago and I can't even play it anymore. This is terrible...
If you're suggesting I send a support request to Steam, I tried that. I can't get past the Captchas, I've obviously typed them in right, but for some reason it denies access. Yes, I've tried all the nonsense-tips that everyone keeps telling me, like "Make sure you use proper caps" and "Are you missing a small letter or symbol?" but I still can't past it.

Looks like Left 4 Dead will have to be "Left 4 Dead".

I feel your pain. I got my friends to mod the game the way I did, too. We played and had fun, but now we can't play with others online. We're stuck playing with only each other or just singleplayer. The only to DO this is to type "sv_consistency 0" into the console every time we launch the game. It's annoying just doing that alone, but NOW we can't do ANYTHING. This game was pretty much a waste of money. We're stuck man.

Tried to delete manually the l4d2 folder BEFORE re-install the game? If not, try it (unninstall, delete, reinstall). And if that doesnt work try "the final solution": Unninstall steam, manually delete the steam folder, reinstall steam, reinstall L4D2. If that still doesnt work...

It'll come to that... Oh my god. This is like pressing the Nuke button at the heat of a war with North Korea and then having to clean it up when it's over.

Wait a second, why would I HAVE to do that? There are SOOOOOO MANY people who mod the crap out of this game, and they don't have this issue? My main concern is fixing this, yes, but after seeing this it makes me wonder, why are WE going through this?

There're 2 posibilities if we know 1 thing, you've unnistalled and reinstalled once and checked the gamecache.

Posibility 1 is: Something is broken for any reason in any archive and didnt got deleted when you unninstalled. Even worst, broken or not, is not detected by game cache.

Posibility 2: Something is broken with any shared file (yea, sounds weird) that doesnt belong to L4D2 and for that the gamecache dont have anything to fix.

For the 1st option you only have to unninstall, delete ONLY the L4D2 folder on steam-steamapps-common and reinstall the game. If that doesnt fix it... Well, something is wrong and the only solution i see is press the nuke button.

Ofc this is only my opinnion, i dont work for Valve so i dunno exactly whats wrong and how to fix it. I can say "try at your own risk", but the only risk you have to face is the re-downloading time of unninstall things :D

PS, why you've that error? Dunno. For example weeks ago ive got consistency problems with custom maps and i needed to remove and reinstall the addons folder (not the whole game, lucky me), but your error doesnt sound like an addon, and more if you dont have any addon installed.

Anyway, if it helps to you, my consistency errors with custom maps started when i changed the name in the map archives for a better personal disposition (imagine, instead of have city17l4d2.vpk as map name i added [MAP] before the name. Just for that my consistency errors started.)
