Lan game with same account
I have two laptops, both of them have steam installed and both of them logged in with same account. Left 4 Dead 2 is installed on each laptop. I tried to start it in offline mode so I can play a lan game with that only one account.

My question is: Is this action legal?
I do not want something bad happen to my account.

You cant do that, even if you are able to open both games at the same time, they will be unable to join the same game because both games will have the same steamid.

No because steam id will be STEAM_ID_LAN which is lan auth

On another computer on the lan you got "STEAM validation rejected", even in offline mode and the server with sv_lan = 1

It's possible. Latest update.
"Nothing against it". Okay. Legal. I'm happy now.

TLDR;

Host of the game should get into the level they want.
Press ~
sv_lan 1
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0

Then the client should hit ~
connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

I found this post while trying to accomplish this task; which is largely unsolved. I posted this here for the next person in 2021+ that is given this thread as their first search result. Good day sir.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
