Whitaker Might Be Dead
Unless Whitaker himself was a carrier, I don't see how he'd not get zombified while handling the Cola, which not only a carrier handled, but that carrier also beat zombies back with it, probably getting their blood, spit, and skin all over it. So I personally believe, unless Whitaker was a carrier (which we don't know,) then he's most certainly dead.

dude who cares he made us risk our lives for some stupid soda. just fire the damn gun or come with us, he was an idiot.
He had more weapons and ammo than he could carry, a supermarket next door, and a freakin' howitzer. I think I would sit tight, at least 'til the food or cola ran out

He was a pretty interesting man. And he wasn't one of those asshat survivors you see in other games that shoot you on sight.

We dont know how contagious the infection is..
We do know that is NOT air borne.. (because it was scrawled in a safe room wall)
Maybe only the classic "bit" real infect people.

As long as he doesn't lick the bottles but only drinks liquid he'll be fine

Actually I read that the Green Flu is indeed "air borne" because all the pilots that they had ever made contact with died. The pilots were not immune so...
I'm not 100% sure of it, but it is an interesting and possible point of view.

From evidence presented in the game, biting and fluid exchange (i.e. blood, saliva, and vomit ingestion) is the primary form of transmission. A separate airborne strain of the virus could explain the speed at which infection occurred. If a victim is infected with both bite and airborne strains, it could also explain the fast mutation of the virus in victims and the development of Special Infected. The Sacrifice tells us now that despite the name and tendency to spread through bites, Green Flu is not rabies or flu but rather a new virus that mutates on a daily basis.

If that was the case, I would assume he could stealth his way to the cola.

Well what if he grabs the bottle, gets some infected goop on his hands, then reaches for and eats a Dorito. Now he's ingested the infected blood/salvia/semen or whatever got on the bottles.

(I'm assuming he didn't bring any hand sanitizer up there with him)

He should be fine for 1 reason. They infect by being around them.

The pilot for no mercy turns while flying the chopper. Touching the cola should be fine, but he will run out of food, and have to leave. If the virus isn't dead in the bodies, then he may get infected.

Well the survivors got their sweat from their hands on the cola no doubt, and if you're like everyone else you had to beat back zombies with the cola, which would get blood on the bottles themselves.
