Nice job kicking me from cold stream
Left 4 dead 2 is excellent stealth action. Not that a pc player would know any thing about stealth action... battlefield 4 was excellent stealth action too (not that a pc player knows how to walk in a 3d space in 2025 because battlefield 4 does not even give you shift walk like the l4d2 devs do but 4 button movement is 4 button movement and I can hear you running. Infected can see your "last known location". metal gear solid 3 was excellent stealth action too. I am tryina hide in the bushes in cold stream and the retarded space nazis kick right away. retarded people cannot walk in a 3d space because a pc player never sets up a game controller. They never get a chance to learn about the way the developers have setup stealth across so many different games because they are always running.

Here's proof that they get angry if you flash them, but it doesn't work for all maps.
I tried dead center 1 and 2 chapter and they get angry only on 2.
I've also tried no mercy both l4d2 and l4d1 and they don't notice it.
Same thing with Swamp Fever 1st and 2nd chapters.
Awesome! Thank you for showing an actual test =)
The first one had already aggro'd before you turned the flashlight on.
The second one got too close to properly diagnose what happened.
The third was a perfect showcase. BUT it could've just been a coincidence.

I still have some doubts. There are literally no "flashlight aggro" cvars for the Common Infected. i'm not trying to disprove you or anything, but i shall remain skeptical until an actual cvar shows up. Are they just unknown to us?

Care to show a source?
I went ahead and tested it in-game, as everyone should when there are doubts about a fact.
The common infected did not react to the flashlight.

I then tested again to check whether proximity matters, and made sure to stand in the infected's field of view.
It still didn't react.

As far as I can tell, the only changes in aggro range are tied to the time of day, the infected's active state, and OBSCURED nav areas:
z_vision_range 500 (How far an infected can see by default.)
z_vision_range_alert 1500 (How far an infected can see when alert.)
z_vision_range_daylight 2400 (How far an infected can see in daylight.)
z_vision_range_obscured 500 (How far an infected can see in OBSCURED areas.)
z_vision_range_obscured_alert 750 (How far an infected can see in OBSCURED areas when alert.)

I'm not seeing any cvar like the witch's z_witch_flashlight_range 400 for the common infected.

huh guess its just some myth that i thought was true just cuz some common saw me as i convinently turned on my flashlight or something

i usually run around with it off regardless as to me its just a visual distraction but from hearing about it and some coincidence thought it was true

some mechanic behind it isnt gonna be inserted to the console and when i tried mine it was l4d1 no mercy 1 it seems possible map has an impact for some reason but doubt it at the same time

seems this requires further testing

my two cents is that flashing a light on a common will generally aggro them faster. When there is a wanderer I want to aggro onto me, I point my crosshair on them and start clicking my flashlight on and off and it generally makes them aggro.
Alright it seems they can see flashlight only if daytime is set.
I'm playing hard rain right now and they see my flashlight, and the moment i change cvar sv_force_time_of_day to 1 (it sets map time to midnight) they stop noticing flashlight.

They should add going prone and night vision to the game.
ngl if you grab the silnced uzi and you shift walk special infected in versus cant see you or ci (specials can see you only when:you walk, you shoot outside of silinced uzi, jump, reload have turned on flash light)

they can see you they just won't see your outline. This only works against noobs.

This game will be a masterpiece if we just add stealth takedowns to the game and remove running.

Well, you can instakill common infected by shoving them if you're behind and they didn't detect you, there's also achievement for doing this in l4d1.

It doesn't magically turn you invisible. They can still look at your survivor model slowly moving. Anyone who is not a noob will have the gamesense to know when the survivors have moved regardless of hiding their outline or not.
