Why do so many local servers use that SI chat mod?

I don't mind semi-modded servers, sometimes some of the tweaks are a little refreshing. But so many of them as of late have that SI chat system mod which tries to imitate actual versus text-chat.

Because 99% of local servers are ran by people who want to force their garbage addons onto everyone else. You wanna run a local server, fine, but you better be playing a custom campaign / mutation.

Mods like that are funny. I happen to run the "SI trash talk" mod, and it makes for some funny moments. The addon surprisingly has a lot of range and can reflect a lot of specific scenarios, so it's not just funny, it's also impressive. But it doesn't even effect gameplay, it's just a little thing on the corner of your screen, so I'm not sure why some folks would be annoyed by it.

Like I said, I usually stay if it's a minor tweak, nothing too extreme, but if it's one of those chinese servers with some stupid points system, gift drop system, and 12 survivors, I insta disconnect from them.

I simply find it annoying because if I wanted to have the actual trash talking experience I'd play the actual versus mode, or prompt ChatGPT to trash talk me. It also clutters the chat area if you're genuinely trying to type to other survivors, which makes this... actually disruptive in my opinion. It's not like TF2 where there's actual game features to taunt opposing teammates.

I simply find it annoying because if I wanted to have the actual trash talking experience I'd play the actual versus mode, or prompt ChatGPT to trash talk me. Sometimes playing the actual versus mode is surprisingly wholesome, with both teams saying things like "gr" and "+1?". And you'd rather have ChatGPT insult you? Kinda weird. As for the cluttering, you can just scroll up lol.

But I see what you're saying about the heavily scripted chinese local servers. I hate them too. My local servers actually have quite a few scripts but I carefully select which ones would actually add something to the game and which ones would be too overbearing. I've achieved a nice balance, and barely anyone is put off when they join my local servers.

Since the whole trash talking addon exists just as a faceless automated chat system for bots, I don't see it any different from some ai template trained from versus players. So yes, I agree with you, it would be weird. Which is why I don't do that. And essentially why this whole addon is the same thing just with a different coat of paint.

I also think the users who use this mod are weird especially. Because they need some pseudo player chat addon to mimmick the versus experience forced upon others while essentially disrupting the central chat system altogether.
