That, or Valve just didn't see the necessity to add children's corpses or zombie models for the sake of realism because it was always a quirky one-line spamming shooter with flimsy characters, rather than something like TWD who focuses entirely on realism.
Doesn't the game already have that basically with the mudman zombie?
Same with minecraft and baby zombies
pros vets and elitists and super elitists teetering on the WWII germany side all are gun ho about headshots and meta. But one little thing changes and their "skills" go out the window lmao.
My headcannon is
They all became special infected.
The virus that made people into infected was more prevelant in kids. Like in dead space or dead frontier. In a way makes sense. Kids are like blank canvases. They're still young underdeveloped and have some stem cells vs adults. Their immune systems sadly also aren't there yet so babies go first then kids and adults or teens somehow survive long enough for the virus to turn them. Basically the virus made them / forced them to grow up to mutate.
It's why most common infected are just every day boring monotonous 9-5 or 6 to 6 depending where you live adults with jobs. You only have very very rare exceptions like jimmy gibs jr. and the mudmen as well as clowns. Also special infected need extreme conditions like overweight people, athletic people, cigar smokers, disabled people, people with indigestion and a rash, and roided up body builders / lifters. So having blank canvas children would be fitting to mutate them into whatever the viruses wanted them to be.
Maybe also witches. They all wonder about aimlessly crying all the time. Sulking and for the most part seem smaller compared to others even survivors. They even sound like kids. They hate loud noises and light sources being cooped up too long indoors by their parents until they turned and either:
-escaped and eventually were turned too
-turned before their parents and killed them.
If anything they're all mostly teen witches or below. If they had a male version then it'd be a more cemented theory.
side theory is they all died b/c the virus was too much for adults you see infected in the streets puking and sleepless. Kids for the most part wouldn't survive 2 weeks on their body being underdeveloped. So most of them just died form lack of sleep and nutrients.
really makes you think overall how adults survive if they don't eat people. Is this like a 28 days / 28 weeks later thing? Where eventually the zombies will starve themselves erm in this case infected. Same ♥♥♥♥ whatever you get the idea. Maybe their brains lack nutrients will die off then you'll just be left with husks of bodies. A plane without a pilot or engine.
Events in l4d1 and l4d2 are intertwined with bill dying in the sacrifice and shortly after a bit l4d2 survivors come then l4d1 survivors leave on a boat towards a deserted island on a boat in the comics. So high chance there are still other survivors out there (well you find clones after one of your party dies lol) still human and still not infected or turned or slowly turning like the guy in the church.
Most of the events happen within around no more than 1 month since l4d1 intro happens 2 weeks after 1st infection case. Then you still got people still alive that help you evacuate. The comics start after the farmhouse rescue in the armored military vehicle.
All things considered seems each campaign is at most 1-5 days if you count the saferoom waiting for either day or nightfall to change or immediately then about at most 1 day from day to night in l4d2. There are about what 12 campaigns total and some shared? So it's about....yeah 1 month or so since the survivors first meet in l4d1 and l4d2 in the parish after bill dies. Then they go for the boat to the island.
-Avoid headache of people, especially game jornalists, crying about shooting children
-The source engine limitations (Imagine having to make all the work to)
-The 1 year gap of development to L4D2 (Basically rushed)
-Attempting to intregrate children to the gameplay would´ve been hell, imagine how broken would it be to have 20 zombiefed childrens attacking you while fighting a tank?
