From my surface level observations, Left 4 Dead's community has something that very few other similarly sized modding communities do: an extremely high rate of various mental illnesses, both diagnosed and undiagnosed. Some similar communities seem to be Fallout and Elder Scrolls, but that might just be because of the massive size of those commuinities.

People in poor mental states obviously lack the mental clarity necessary for a more measured stress response. So instead of locking comments and taking a hiatus, as is the reasonable thing to do under pressure, L4D modders often make a large explosive ordeal of quitting, making it everyone else's problem (intentionally or not).

Now, mind you, I ain't a therapist or mental health expert, nor do I have any sort of peer reviewed statistics on this. It's just a personal observation I've made over the course of a few years. Obviously I don't mean any ill-will to the mentally unwell, either, I just wish they'd get the help necessary to avoid public meltdowns and the like.

I think he meant that they aren´t well checked on the head and they dedicate a terminally online life-style , they never log off , so it takes a toll on them mental heath

But its not aways the case , some of them , get themselves involved with stupid drama , yknow the drill , discord dms , grooming allegations , yada yada , you see this before and L4D2 ain´t imune to this

The Yoru guy behind nightmare got mad because people was criticizing his addon quality , he got that PISSED that he removed the entire collection and attempted to DMCA every one that reuploaded the addons , ♥♥♥♥ was crazy doe

Not every one of them is just as pety as Yoru but it could explain some cases

A little bit of both. But the point is, they don't handle their problems in a reasonable way, they delete everything, which is unnecessary and harmful to other people. There's far more graceful ways to retire.

But yeah, Yoru's a bit of an odd case. Funny enough, I actually did agree with a few of his takes on L4D2 being unpolished, and I thoroughly enjoyed Nightmare and his other packs while they were originally up. But the dude clearly let his ego get to his head, and he's still clinging on to his two minutes of fame, while simultaneously making sure nobody can enjoy his legacy. Weird guy.

More recently though, a modder going by the name HUNK (who had a few Resident Evil themed addons, as well as a bunch of misc. utility mods) disappeared for (as far as I can gather) mental health reasons, and took all of his mods with him. It's just a really destructive way of handling things, and there's not much of a point anyways if they're all going to be reuploaded.

damn,i didnt knew yoru just went mad n dmca'd everyone who tried to post his modpack o_o
I don't delete mods :steamhappy: . I even made some backups of my mods on gamemaps :steamhappy: .

Well, some modders had personal problems either in real life or in L4D2 community that made them take some actions, like either deleting mods or setting the mods to "friend only" or "private". It's nothing new in L4D2. So, always prepare to copy your "workshop" folder somewhere regularly, to prevent from losing some of your favourite mods. & if you noticed the mod removal just recently, you can try to recover it with "File Recovery" free software. Any deleted files in PC are usually still kept in the system. So, the earlier you try to recover the lost mods, the better chance to recover them in good shape.

Sorry, 'my' community? To be clear, I don't represent anyone but myself. I don't harrass modders, nor do I believe they're all mentally ill (nor do I believe people with mental issues should be harassed or derided). I've never had an interaction with one in this community, only seen tons of drama go down from afar. It's weird, actually, since it's usually the most polished mods, from the most talented creators, that seem to wind up taken down due to 'criticism and harassment' or other similar reasons. Don't get me wrong, it's more than just some modders that I'd describe as mentally ill, the haters who spark controversy with the already flammable modders are infinitely worse in my opinion.

Take, for instance, the Yoru drama. On one hand, you've got a very very vocal albeit small minority who hated his mods and his modding philosophy, to the point of borderline harassment. But you've also got a modder who was willing to feed those trolls by burning all the art he made to the ground, and started a (still ongoing) campaign to nuke anyone who just wanted to continue enjoying his stuff from orbit (the ethics of reuploads are another can of worms, but the point is, Yoru didn't just quit the community and leave it behind, he still obsessively looks for reuploads). Both involved parties are at fault (and at least a little mentally ill), and the silent majority of people who just enjoy the art the community produces suffer for it.

I get why Steam has a delete button on workshop items. I'm just sad that so many genuinely talented people feel like it's the only way out, and rashly decide to take what they've created out of the world.

The modder has done nothing wrong in my eyes. The community sat and watched while the "vocal minority" shredded away his mental health until he snapped. Apathy has consequences whether the community acknowledges it or not.

This is the most melodramatic thing I've read in a long time.
There's actual wars and people dying, and America is in its most depressing economic turmoil in decades, and THIS is what people are worried about? Seriously? Get a grip.

Probably shouldn't use the internet or put yourself out there then. Otherwise, you will be offended. That's how this invention works, unfortunately. End of discussion.
