"Connection to Steam was lost"

Two days in a row, I have been playing on a certain server, and have come to a sudden realisation that nobody was - or indeed could - connecting to the server.
This happened slowly as people rage-quit out of the game, but nobody replaced their spot in game until eventually it was just my team left and we were continually wondering why nobody was joining. I invited friends to join the game, but they could not join, and were met with the "session is no longer available" message. My steam status said I was "currently in game" but friends were unable to join.

Eventually my team in game at the time decided to leave and rejoin the server (through the Steam Group Server list) and everything was fine after that. However, when I voted to 'return to lobby' instead of actually returning to the server lobby, I was met with the error message "Connection to Steam was lost".

My question is, does anyone know if this would be a Steam problem? Server host problem? Or something different completely? And have you had this experience as well?

I cant offer any help but i came here to say good luck getting anyone to reply with helpful things to say.

Steam has routinely crashed at least partly every day around 7pm CST for about a week or so. I can't say whether or not the issues you've experienced originate with Steam or that specific server though. Hope you successfully resolve it soon.

Each occurrence has originated around the same time, which may be coinciding with Steam outages I guess.

It happened again last night.
Could it be, say if I was the lobby leader at the start - then I lose connection to steam?
I noticed in one of my chats to a friend last night that it said something along the lines of "connection to steam was lost" inside the chat box.
What does this mean?
Can anyone help?

Should have nothing to do with the game.

It's Steam itself wigging out lately. I have the same disconnects while not in any game.
