L4D2 Error: "Connection Blocked: Please remove "-insecure from the launch options before attempting to connect to a VAC secured server"
Okay, so I've had this game for a while now. Out of nowhere, when I attempt to join a multiplayer lobby, the loading bar freezes at ~10% and after a minute, will kick me from lobby; saying one of two things. 1. "Connection Blocked: Please remove "-insecure from the launch options before attempting to connect to a VAC secured server." Or 2. Disconnected after 10 attempts (Something like that.)

The thing is, I don't have -insecure in my launch options. I have nothing there (well I have -novid, but removing that didn't do anything.)

I've also tried verifying my game cache and re-installing the game but nothing seems to be working. I don't even have any VAC bans...

This is also a problem for my friends. If we're all trying to join at the same time, their loading bars freeze too, except theirs freezes at about ~90%, compared to my ~10%.

The only thing I've discovered is that I can connect to any multiplayer server when I'm using my wifi, but when I connect with ethernet, it won't let me join. (My wireless internet sucks also, so I'm basically forced to use an ethernet cord)

Help would be appreciated, and I can answer any questions about my problem down below.

Comments like these are really unnecessary.

not really, you are just going back on your own word. that last phrase at the end of your post is really unnecessary

How about this? If you don't have any helpful advice to solve my problem, then don't comment. If you have a problem with something I posted, however, feel free to report it. That way, this thread can stop being bumped unnecessarily and we can keep this civil.

idc about your problem, you said you can answer anything. meaning this post should of never existed lmao

Then report this post, if you feel it's a bad one. Hell, report this whole topic. If you don't care about my problem, then why are you still here? Just a typical troll? There's honestly no reason for you to hate on me and my topic if the report function works...

For the sake of unnecessary bumping, I'm going to stop replying until I get a good response.

hahaha, its not a bad post. if you can answer anything even about your own problem why is this still up xD, also don't you want it to be bumped so you can get answers?
bad answers good answers off-topic answers you are still getting something. if im wasting your time then just ignore me its not that hard even a monkey could do it

but ill try to find an answer for you because this is very very rare
Angol Jul 19, 2015 @ 9:32pm
try this:
right click L4D2, click properties, click "Set Launch Items" and remove anything that is present

if that does not work i have no idea what could be happening, you also mentioned you re-installed and verified and still didn't work. you should contact valve

After starting Steam as Admin, I was able to join a random Multiplayer match. I also was able to do this without running Steam as Admin. So, I guess I'm only unable to connect to Multiplayer games that my friends are running, as I still couldn't do this while running Steam as Admin... hm...

Where are you running l4d2 from, a shortcut on your desktop of from your library? Cause running it from the shortcut on your desktop will cause this insecure error.

I've tried running it from a shortcut and from my library. Issue doesn't resolve either way.
