My backspace doesn't work

Simple problem that I can't fix, when I type and make a mistake I can't correct it.

You must make a lot of mistakes, you have worn out the backspace key on your keyboard. If it's not that old, the switch could have failed. Either way, the solution is to replace the keyboard.

Well the problem is that i'm on a laptop and you can't exactly replace the keyboard. But my backspace doesn't work in l4d2 but it works perfectly fine in games like TF2 and payday.

Perhaps you(or someone in your household) accidentally bound the key to another in-game action?

Actually, it is a rather easy to replace the kbd on a laptop, but the kbd isn't the problem. You failed to mention that it was working in other applications, so Beat Monkey probably has your fix. I would also recommend you get a mic and use it for communications because typing in-game can get you killed if you're not in the safe room.

I'm having this problem too. @OP did you ever find a solution?
edit: only happens while trying to backspace in-game chat. My keyboard backspace function works 100% correctly otherwise..

Sounds like Beat Monkey is probably right. Start the game and then go into options and then keyboard/mouse and then edit keys and make sure that button isn't assigned to some other function. if it is, change the function to another button and then the backspace should work again.

Rebinded all the keys - however, I still have the problem on occasion where I can't backspace in in-game chat or open console with ~. When I relaunch the game both these functions work fine.

Could it be a server that rebinds some keys? Was originally wanting to check the server and any plugins but I couldn't open console. Frustrating...

Do "bind "backspace"" in the game console to check if you don't have any command attached to it.
Do "unbind "backspace"" in that case.
