Brightness Issue
Hi,

Recently I bought a new laptop, and L4D2's brightness while playing was very low. My video card is Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500. I turned up my brightness to a maximum on both the Intel control panel and in the game itself, and it gave no results. The strangest thing about this issue is that, after going afk and letting the bot on, the game gets normal brightness for about 3 seconds and then gradually begins to get darker until an unplayable level.

Maps that were unplayable include vanilla and custom maps. I know that the custom maps aren't very dark by default because I've played them before on my previous computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

You just have to settle for restting your options every time you launch the game.

there should be a setting on laptops that dim the screen when running on battery.
play with that. if your desperate you can do mat_fullbright 1 in the console, let you play a few games while you get it worked out.

all other games are fine and my laptop is plugged in most of the time and on high performance with full brightness, so I know it's not that.

while mat_fullbright does work out for singleplayer, I play co-op with friends and I will need to host through LAN which somehow doesn't work for us. plus mat_fullbright removes the intended atmosphere of a map in terms of lighting.

as mentioned, mat_fullbright 1 was just suggested if you wanted to play a few games while you get it going.

I found a solution. Go to your game library and find your left 4 dead 2 game. right click and go into properties. Click on Set Launch Options on the first tab and type "-autoconfig" without the quotes. I'm not sure what exactly this does but it resets all my in-game options and fixes my darkness issue. You just have to settle for restting your options every time you launch the game.

It is where you browse your game list.

Inside steam, there's a big word on top written "Library" alongside "Store", "Community" , "Profile".

I found the library and fixed it but is there a way I can permanently fix it without resetting options every time I play the game
