OP, you need to do a "clean config install".
This happens because whatever configs that server had, your game imported them.
Start l4d2, go to Options, Multiplayer and check if "Always allow custom server content" is "Off" or "None".
You can still get custom content from servers, but this time your game won't make it your own configs. Whenever you join a custom server, a simple restart will clear your game of any custom server mods (with that previous option set to "None" or "Off").
You also need to reset your Steam Cloud, since these configs were probably uploaded to your Steam Cloud. Every time that you reinstall l4d2, it will keep downloading the same configs over and over again.
To properly reset your Steam Cloud:
1: Make a backup of your addons (or a text file with every link so that you can redownload them). Make sure you are not getting the malicious addons again;
2: in l4d2, go to Options, Multiplayer and disable the "allow custom server content";
3: delete and unsubscribe from every addon;
4: Exit l4d2.
5: Go to Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/downloads and make sure it's empty;
6: Place "-autoconfig" into your l4d2's launch parameters;
7: Launch l4d2;
8: go to Options, Multiplayer, disable "allow custom server content";
9: Exit the game;
10: Notice if your steam cloud was updated. If it asks if you want to overwrite the old data with new data, just agree.
After you make sure your Steam cloud is properly clean, you can (and should!) remove "-autoconfig" from the launch parameters... And now you just need to get your addons back.
If anyone has something to add to my "reset steam cloud configs", please give us your take. My method might not be the best/easiest.
Thanks for the tips, I'm going to try this now to see if it would fix the problem.
Update: After deleting and unsubscribing to the addons and making sure that the "download folder" was empty. It did fix the problem. Although i am curious if it's still necessary to do the "autoconfig-" part. I'll redownload the addons again to see if the problem occurs again, if it does then I'll try to finish the instructions you gave me. Thanks again for the help.
