That simple, its fun playing with friends, no two games are the same.
I dont have alot of hours on the PC version (48 as of post) but I have had 1000's of hours on the Xbox version. It was fun while the community was good... of corse, I left when it got taken over by the overconfident racist 4th graders who kicked because they wanted to take on the entire enemy team on their own in VS. mode.
^ That is one example
There are also groups you can join, like custom map groups like the one i actively take part in. You meet new people and play new different maps. That and reversing crap (for a more "appropriate" term) talkers and sometimes helping out new players who actually care to learn help reverse said teams. There are quite alot of awesome moments to be had within this game.
Most of my steam friends are from L4D2, it's enjoyable to just stay in lobby and chat sometimes. In pub co-op, I find it quite amusing playing with new players since they are so unpredictable and I have to be extra careful not to be pounced.
However, if you have to try to enjoy a game, it's just not for you. Nothing wrong about that.
Most game modes are fun with people who have mics to chat ingame. Mutation modes changes normal game modes a bit, like Tanks only, swords only, Versus Survival etc.
