Your Technical Pet Peeves
What are some technical features/unfixed bugs that really annoy you in l4d2?

Honestly my biggest gripe with this game is the very limited usage of sv_cheats. unless you start a map through the console AND it's the first map you play (if you play in any server you won't be able to use sv_cheats until you restart the game) you will never be able to set it to 1, even if you host local. it makes testing mods a burden because you'll need to get admin system and setup a bind and all that stuff, and it doesn't have ALL commands available which is a problem in itself.

You could do it through your local ini server file.

doesnt really bother me but on Dead Carnival there are spots in the first merry-go-round section (the one you cross before entering the alley that leads to the giant slide), where the gnome can clip through the floor if you tossed it. Disheartening for someone trying the gnome achievement for the first time(s)

also the way a zombie can rubberband around you in an orbit when you are being peak targeted by the horde

I've moved on from this one ever since I noticed that vscrpts can do almost all (or maybe even all?) of what cheats on cvars can do. God mode? There's netprops. Noclip? There's netprops too. Max ammo cvars? There's netprops to freely modify ammo even beyond the max ammo set on cvars. & many fun things can be done via cvars, more than cvar cheats can do :steamhappy:

Well, as for annoying bugs that are unfixed until now, for me I think it's the locked cvar bug when joining some modded servers by accident. Sometimes their cvars stay, like spitter becomes too cheap that she keeps spitting nonstop. Boomer becomes more disgusting by vomitting nonstop, smoker with very very long tongue, etc. & I think mutation goes like this too, but it can be reset by playing Singleplayer & then exiting to main menu.

i mean if anything i suggest just using a map like this:

which is good for checking everything (and no the mutation isnt essential i think it just prevents random hordes)

so unless its texture related which then youd have to load the map regardless then this has everything covered

theres other maps out there like it too

reading the description makes it appear as its intended for acheivment hunting however i just used it as a testing map

the camera flinch that happens every time the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bots try to shoot through you.

why? why must the player be punished because the bot picked an idiotic position behind them? the amount of times I could've saved a teammate from taking damage only to be thwarted because of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ camera flinch mechanic.

"just crouch to avoid it!!!" no, how about I down the bot with a shotgun so it stops being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuisance?

I hope whoever implemented this feature is forever cursed with an imprecise mouse pointer. it's no joke, man.

This actually has also been solved by a mod. I forget the mod name, but the author of the mod is the co-author on L4B2 (the one with Keroberos (Card Captor Sakura) profile picture.

But again, just why doesn't Valve fix it themselves? If a modder can fix it, Valve should be able to do it too :steamfacepalm: . I think L4D2 will undergo some great updates if Valve can start to accept modders' contributions with some rewards, & then implement their mods to fix bugs they left behind.

when a common clips inside of something and instead of being killed by the game it just lets them hit you with the fastest attack speed possible while being unbashable. Like cmon..it'd be one thing if they just got stuck but they become 10x stronger when stuck.

Just make commons that can't keep pathing instantly die, it'd be funny to watch them run into a table and die rather then watch them run into a table, crouch and get stuck and then bite your shins.

the fact that "restart chapter" restarts to the first round of the chapter in versus. so if some asshat griefs the game in round 2 you have to choose between letting him ruin the chapter or starting over all the way from the start even if round 1 was fine.

That and stuff like the bile bomb's coding being the exact same as the pipebomb's, so zombies with ear protection won't go after the bile unless it hits another entity.
Or how you can't cancel out of the game creating a new lobby if you tried to join a match that then became unavailable, I just hate waiting around for those couple of seconds.

common infected being able to walk through you when you have high ping. EG: one hits you from behind, so you turn around to shoot it but it runs through you and it's now where you were looking a second ago and it hits you again.

CSS weapons breaking if their scripts are edited at all. If you make any change the weapon will turn inside out.

Melee weapons being hard to really do anything with. They all have to be statistically identical in terms of damage. You can't use swing patterns from different weapons or else it breaks.

Most cvars having zero documentation as to what they do or how they work

Launcher cvars being a pain in the ass to test

The fact that valve went to all the effort of giving the Witch a flashlight anger mechanic in the trailer and then just never bothered to implement it in game

just in general how hard coded a lot of ♥♥♥♥ is, it works as a game but if you want to change things about it you need to work within very strict confines or make a lot of sacrifices to get it working

The Hard Rain infected during the return trip (they load the wrong models), the L4D1 survivors not using the M1911 and P85 pistols (the former model was even added), and the former german-exclusive weapons (specifically the knife shove, the missing SG552 Scope overlay, and the lacking T1 catagory for Bolt Action Snipers).

Also want to count the former german exclusive weapons still using CSS models when there are updated L4D2 models and animations from CSGO's Alpha/Beta (the MP5 is especially egregious since it using outdated assets is the only real issue the gun has, and the updated version from that Beta has never been used in CSGO either)
