How to play multiplayer with friends?

I am new to l4d2 and
I have no friends🥲, have a few but they don’t play l4d2
I tried playing online servers, but it was something different and weird, like everything was in Chinese or Japanese (but subtitles were in english tho)
Also there were like 8-10 players instead of 4 (like there was 3-4 bill or nick or gambler in a single game)

so how shall I play multiplayer mode?
in campaign yes, in which we start from a terrace of a building.

Play Campaign -> Play With Friends -> Create Lobby. Choose Official Dedicated or Local.
