[Linux] - I can't play online with Proton
Strangely enough, the native Linux version of L4D2 works horribly for me, low FPS, interface glitches, the radial menu doesn't work properly because the mouse is out of alignment... so I had to enable Proton Experimental and use the Windows version, which works much better and I don't have those problems anymore.

The only problem I have now is that it won't let me play online, I get a VAC alert saying that I have to disable the plugins to be able to play on VAC servers, is there any way to play online on VAC servers from the Windows version of the game with Proton?

No. It is a known reported issue in Proton, unlikely to be fixed.

Your only choice is to play with Vulkan, which won't fix the other problems the native port has. (like the radial menu)

No, I don't think you can connect to any VAC protected servers with Proton, I haven't found any workarounds for this either. You can still probably play on insecure servers that doesn't have VAC running/installed.

As for native, OpenGL runs horribly for me too , so Vulkan is the way to go, add -vulkan to the launch options.

Left 4 Dead 2 uses "toGL" by default, which translates DirectX 9 instructions to OpenGL. This works, but I experienced significant stuttering in some cases, lighting bugs, and lower performance considering my hardware. Adding -vulkan to the advanced options field will run the game through DXVK, which translates instructions to Vulkan instead. This improves FPS and reduces stuttering in most cases. The game's window will state "Vulkan" after the change, and you'll have to reconfigure the game's graphics settings since they reset.

I recommend this for all players.

I have the same issues with Vulkan, at least with the radial menu...

Obviously, I don't have any display connected to the motherboard, the iGPU isn't being used.

It's not obvious and it can run from the iGPU even if connected to the discreet GPU

Low FPS on a 4090 is bizarre. Disable your iGPU and humor me :P
