April 7, 2024: What's up with the servers?

How long has this current server problem been going on for?

They're getting DDoS'd by some neckbeard living in his basement. It's been an issue for several months now, but the servers are now more or less unplayable. Valve has yet to do anything substantial about it as of late, so nobody really knows how long this will take.

Local servers have actually been safe for me surprisingly. My only theory is that the DDoSer wants people to stop relying on Valve servers

If so then they would probably engage in any form of communication. TF2 bot hosters obviously do it for clout (linking their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Youtube / Discord etc.) but there is still no concrete explanation for why someone would need to make L4D2 servers unplayable.
