Skill issues with people using Melee weapons
I have played L4D 1 and 2 since the beginning. I have found a major game play change when melee weapons were introduced. It is fine to use them, however the greatest disadvantage is the fact that almost no one now clears any zombies with pistols and or your own personal ammo is now used up due to that one guy who only uses melee. No matter the situation. To the point, users stopped playing in large droves when melee weapons were introduced.

Another problem with melee users is the fact they cannot cover you due to lacking an infinite ammo pistol. But the real main issue, is that melee users do not learn how to properly cover for a team mate, in a team oriented game. Leaving players frustrated and alienated from the players and game play itself.

To add to this problem, tier 1 weapons, such as the Uzi, were made so weak that you either use a pistol or a melee weapon. A majority people will prefer to use the melee weapon due to having to manually click the pistol to fire.

In order to fix this, I am suggesting a built in melee swing with a cool down. Which would essentially make the player OP (used to never get tired for pushing). But in the beginning of L4D, zombies either hurt you a lot, or there were way too many of them. Changes have been made that fear of threat has been dumbed down to the point where zombies basically are less on screen, dodge bullets or become a bullet sponge. This is not the most effective way to tweak a games play to make things fun for the player.

Melee is much more powerful than the default pistol. Magnum is different, but killing horde with melee is much more effective and covers teammates as well because it kills zombies better. Idk why you think melee is bad because you’re effectively praising it for being "too OP" and complaining it doesn’t cover teammates, but it does and definitely better than the pistols which is ♥♥♥♥ even when holding two of them.

dont worry, you will get to a point where l4d2 is an easy game and you dont need a teammate to rescue or cover you, you do it yourself, you are your own army

You can't break free from special infected pins by yourself, nor can you get up from ledges alone

I personally feel like having a melee weapon is essential in every playthrough. Just think of those moments or events when you have to turn off the alarm, or rush to the saferoom with infinite hordes coming at you. Yea you'll look cool with dual wielding pistols, but the zombies are going to surround and beat your ass like you owe them money lol. Most ppl would panic and start dumping bullets into random directions and start panic shoving until they get incapped. At least with a melee weapon, you can kill a large portion of zombies, especially with adding the technique of following/rotating the camera with your swings.

If you have a pitchfork then forget about it, that's just as bad as using 2 pistols lol

fire axe big carry
when zombies all around you from every angle, its annoying to shove and shoot them with eagle so i prefer to do 360 with the axe to clear them all
machete and ninja sword are good too cuz they fast af but they cant 360 like the axe

I agree. Melee weapons made the game much less tactical and more casual for the losers who cant aim or too lazy to shoot their gun. Theres always left 4 dead 1 to go back to, but I think Valve should fix their servers and make the game playable over anything.

Being OP as in having both pistol and a melee. And nothing is better than a whole team using pistols as zombies don't even get remotely close to you unless a spawned horde is signaled.

hear me out dude.. if you're in a closed space with just enough room for 1 person you're supposed to use malee's to clear the way same thing goes when you're looking for loot and have to go in a room with only 1 exit malee's are great at stopping smokers and killing short range enemies like the jockey or the hunter you can also 1 shot the charger if you aim for the head if you have to complain about people using certain weapons maybe you're the one with the skill issue

No, a pistol can be used in closed quarters and every scenario. If you save your ally with a melee and have to walk to close the distance, it is a skill problem because you did not switch to a long range wep and endagered your ownself in the process.

For your scenario you can use a skill called ducking so the person behind you can fire while you do damage as they close the gap. If you ran up front with a melee weapon, in a closed quarter area, without backup then you are the problem for the group. There is no area where two people cannot stand next to each other unless your going through a grate entrance and or ladder. Even then its such a low percentage and you have other better options. A hallway can easily have 4 people shooting in one direction. Push smoker head shot. Charger you should be backing out and or always using main weapon. You can always see enemies coming at you. If they are close enough to whiff at you, it is a skill problem. Save for being overwhelmed by a spawn trigger. Even then you are supposed to get closer to each other so you can assist properly. A full squad using pistols / main wep, and even being mildy skilled, keeps everything at bay.

Let's say we use your scenario then. Would you use melee as your main consistent weapon in a versus game? You going to melee a smoker who grabs you, or stop them with a skilled use of pistol before you can't shoot? Your going to walk by zombies and let them be used on a spawn trigger against you because you dint kill them with pistols and or used all your main ammo on them?

How about this, in an expert game. Pistol or melee. A reminder in expert you die in 2-3 hits. Easy enough to understand?

I could say the same for L4D1 players who have infinite shoving and safe little closets to hide in to deal with a horde.:steambored:

Let's not forget the lack of chargers, spitters, and jockeys which make the game much harder. The l4d1 specials are nearly nothing in their current super nerfed state (they were much more threatening in the beta). Any skilled person can kill each one of them easily.

this is a braindead take.

melee weapons specialize where pistols are the most casual thing on the planet - damage from anywhere.

melee weapons have a higher skill ceiling by far: slicing tongues, killing charging chargers, etc
