SPRAYS NO LONGER WORK CBaseClientState::FileDenied: downloads/dc598d0a.dat.

Any new spray that is not currently under your /SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/downloads/ will be denied and not show in game.
This has never occurred to be an issue until the recent updates.
I was curious if the community a whole was having this issue.

Steps to replicate:
1. Create a new .png or .vtf for a spray.
(optional) 1.1 ] cl_logofile "FILE PATH TO FILE.vtf"
2. Spray on the wall and ask if someone sees your spray.
3. Ask another person to repeat steps 1 and 2 on you.
4. Look in the console via ` and see the annoying message "CBaseClientState::FileDenied: downloads/dc598d0a.dat."
Albeit the file "dc598d0a.dat" would be different as it may be a random string, uncertain as I slightly remember it being random.

My request? Any quick fix so I can set my cl_logofile to an old already patched windows virus so I can make jokes and do a bit of tomfoolery.

Or has Valve thought that people making 50 workshop items for degenerate NSFW big titty gf was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgusting and made up the "hackerone" update and just simply removed it?

That might be very possible since the information in my console is "CBaseClientState::FileDenied: downloads/dc598d0a.dat."
Although, the update you linked was from 2 years ago about an exploit with sprays I believe, but it is not correlated to what I think is the cause of the sprays no longer working. And it's an update to disable sprays by the players choice. And "l4d_delete_temp_files 0" does not effect sprays(from what i've tested looking at /downloads/ from the main menu), and is seemingly deprecated?, it does not effect the /downloads/ folder it seems from turning the game on and setting it to 1 and quitting the game from in-game menu.

And to why I made a duplicate, TL;DR: Clarification in the thread title and text to give an understanding on what's happening to bring new people into the discussion who might understand a bit of vtex and what is causing these issues.
I tried to bring more information to the matter, but it turns out that no one new with more detailed information about it actually came forward.
By the way, I hate to say this, but my previous thoughts on it were wrong, uncertain if I publicly said it but, when I set my spray to "i_love_gore.dat" that file does not exist, it's "i love gore.dat" without _s, but I checked with the spray and it seems I can at least see it, but other players sprays are not shown to me.
Also, I feel as if all the information shown about it as the thread text would help people understand the situation at hand and that the spray feature is now dysfunctional. And outright non-operable to new players who have not cached anyone's sprays before(or have reinstalled the game).
You may say and think: It works for me! I can see my friends' sprays and it's just one friend who I can't see. - But any old spray you've seen you've also cached under downloads/ in /Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/downloads/ folder.


I've wrote this while about to pass out, some things I have not fully tested in the game because my friend kept me up and i have to sleep now, and i'll go ahead and do these things later, or someone else will test it and post about it. Hopefully that one dumb dumb zzz would post some real ♥♥♥♥, and stop manipulating people with ChatGPT and talk about actual L4D2 news. LIKE AN ENTIRE FEATURE GETTING THE HAMMER, RATHER THAN SKITZO POST.

Reason why this happens because since last few patches, "sv_allowupload" now defaults to "0". Meaning you cant upload your sprays to servers anymore. Community servers can still change this through sourcemod/vscript but on vanilla servers, sprays are now gone.

but just saying,spray which i have since i got on steam for 8 years now has worked just fine
I dont have any bugs in the game such as spray
then again maybe others dont see it?

Because its a hidden cvar. you can use "help sv_allowupload" to see value of it.

Okay i dont know about spray answer yet but
what the hell was the update

it reseted my flashlight to default
still have it subbed but just gonna fix that now
this only happens when you delete the game and then install it again, gotta fix the flashlight and vocalizer
but this time its only flashlight

how strange

We are lucky we were notified that they made a change at all rather than be in the dark completely.

did you fix it? this wired since flashlight on client side and dosn't do with servers like with spray/vl? hope they don't touch anime mods other than no one will play this game
