Are Left 4 dead 2 online servers safe?
New to L4D2 on steam, just wondering are they safe with hacks these days as I heard before they could cause viruses to your PC.

Wanna play online but will only do single player until this is answered lol

Um, i don't play much versus due to all the high pings from main servers, but yeah.. a lot of people (posts) including videos are saying its bad. As the virus thing i... idk i thats a thing its possible i guess. Some community servers are kinda safe i guess in a sense of admins kicking people.

Currently everything should be going well. I dont really play Versus, but I do not recommend it to a new player. Feel free to host open games on Easy/Normal or join a game with other players on Normal difficulty. Servers have been good for awhile now.

It's even the first time I heard about viruses. Afaik, there's no way to transfer viruses on L4D2. Mods are completely safe, & the previous hacks only caused DDOS attacks that caused very high ping. But the DDOS problem was fixed so far.

yes they are safe, if theres anything youve been hearing about the l4d2 servers its just the DDOS attacks.(which currently arent active as far as im aware)

but yes you should be careful with some older games as they can have vulnerabilities due to being abandond leaving them outdated

however its valve we are talking about then they got security covered even with older games

if you aren't downloading mods (like 3rd party mod sites / workshop) there shouldn't be a risk. 3rd party servers can leak your IP tho (and a certain infamous versus server will 100% leak it publicly to everyone in the match thou I doubt anyone is gonna do anything with it)

If you are paranoid about it just always create a lobby for an "Official Dedicated Server", as the in-progress matches do not tell you if they are official or not until you join.

to add onto this there has been workshop mods with malicious stuff in them, but I don't think they were able to actually activate. You can download GCFScape and open mods you download to see if there is anything suspicious if you wanna be extra careful. As long as you have a decent antivirus and scan regularly it shouldn't be an issue.
