[Fixed] Delayed audio?
So recently about today actually I noticed my audio is slightly behind, like maybe half a second and its really annoying, anyone know why?

Don't have snd_mixahead on 1500 like a numbskull :)

In game Voice Comm is delayed, and there isn't anything you can really do about that. Use Mumble, or another program to reduce/eliminate delay. If you're talking about all audio, I would look into: http://steamcommunity.com/app/550/discussions/0/458606877335331487/

If all else fails, it could be an issue with your computer, likely a sound driver update issue.
I have this issue and the audio latency doesn't fix it. Audio with the snd_mixahead 0.3 is as low as I can go before it just turns to garbage. Even more frustrating is the fact I'm running the real time kernel for audio and a high end audio interface (playing on my DAW). I'm guessing this might be an issue with resampling for me but l4d2 is the only game with the issue.

@JumpingJack
If your in-game audio is truly delayed, this might indicate a DPC latency issue. Likely caused by hardware or a driver issue. I would suggest googling **DPC Latency** and finding a program that can test your latency. Keep in mind that certain actions will cause a spike in DPC latency, such as alt-tabbing.

Something To Note:
In-game voice chat has and always will be delayed. Not only is the voice quality awful but it's known to have at least 500ms - 2000ms of delay. Some idiots will think otherwise...

@The Menstrual Persuader
I think you mean **snd_mixahead 0.03**, as using 0.3 means 300ms and 0.03 means 30ms. The default is 100ms or 0.1 .

I don't use voice and I mean ALL audio. I did mean 0.03. 0 just turned into scubbed garbage and I initially even tried -1. I know what my latency is, as I stated I'm playing on a DAW. Right now my latency is very high because I'm not working on audio and it's at 23ms. Audio is all real time because again it's a DAW. L4d2 is the only game that does this and it's not a game the machine struggles to play.

I'm not sure why I keep seeing/hearing everyone bring up voice. Putting aside the fact the realities of voice chat in games how would anyone know it was delayed unless the person was behind them to see/hear the delay. The game audio is the problem. I can shoot and 1.5-2seconds later I finally hear the shot. With full subs/captioning turned on I will also get text notices of hunter growls before the audio. Character vocalizations happen behind as well. It's not game breaking but it's obnoxious when you realize. Everyone has stopped shooting but the audio is still playing etc.

In your ASIO driver, lower your buffer size.
I can lower it to 1ms the game has the exact same audio lag. More so ASIO is Windows only.

As a side note 1ms is insane. For as fast as my set up is 1ms is unusable for audio under high DPS it breaks up. There is no excuse for a crappy old game to require such a thing when I can play high end games with no issue. :P I think this is straight up a problem with the ogl port.

There is a problem when a basic game requires you to have an audio set up like mine. Most peoples cards are on board chips. No ASIO or buffer or frame control. If such hardware and silly fixes were needed it still points to an issue in the game.

Whether ti's Windows only or not you get the jist of what I said.
Probably a good idea to let people know what OS you are running when you ask for help.
The 64 dollar question is what happens when you don't run the sound through your DAW but through the sound that came with your computer?
I didn't ask for help, I was comisserating with the original poster.

The $64 question answer is there is no way to test the IAP chip.

For chits and giggles my card is at 0.726ms right now. I'll have to test later but even running a much higher latency the issues isn't present in single player. When I play tonight with my roommate and friends I will see. This looks like the game is adjusting things it shouldn't for online latencies.

Fair enough but you didn't quote the OP, his post is 2 years old and when you post here someone is bound to try and help. I hope you get it working.
Heh quoting isn't manditory heh. Just recording there is someone else out there with the issue. As I just tested it looks like it's a multiplayer issue at that. Again issues with the OGL port. Basically this is one of the many issues that is making eveyone ditch OGL for Vulkan.

I'd be curious if the OP was seeing his issue single player or online. He also doesn't state his platform.

sorry bout that, also it took me 2 years to fix this, I like to think i'm pretty damn knowledgeable about everything SOURCE but I didn't realize snd_mixahead was at 1500 and I really don't know why, I dealt with it by playing 7.1 surround which would solve it but it sounded like trash. And to be fair I haven't played l4d2 much at all since around 16 and 17 but still man, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

its at 0.05 now, thanks for the help :P
