Screen slowly gets darker?
My screen is fine on the main screen, loads fine, sometimes crashes due to other errors which I can fix quite easily. So, since I got this new PC, it seems that, whenever I go into an actual game, campaign, versus, realism, single-player - you name it - my screen gets SO dark to the point in which I can't see and I CANNOT play. I've installed add-ons for brighter flashlights and all, but I still can't stand how it just slowly, slowly, gets darker. Does anyone have this problem, or did anyone have this problem? Is there a known fix for it?

//EDIT: Problem seems resolved for now. Hopefully stays that way - therefore, I'm no longer in need of help, before anyone goes to reply and realizes it's already solved.

Have you tried verifying cache?

I've noticed it happening on one of my old computers. Some people say that updating your graphics card driver will help. Try that.

New monitor too? If not, could be your monitor's on the way out.

Verified cache - new monitor too, btw. I'll try to update my graphics card driver, but I can't imagine that being the issue. We'll see, though.

Ah, and also, it works fine with every other game, from TF2 to Portal 2. Dunno why L4D2 - one of my favorites - isn't working. Grrr, lol

Graphics card driver appears not to be the problem.

Well, I'm stumped. Good luck

Does your new PC or monitor have any type of power management software? It could be adjusting based on the increased power from running the game, or there are some monitors that have light sensors to adjust the brightness automatically.

Haha, MrLiability. Thanks for your advice though!

Also, nope, it doesn't adjust according to my power usage and all of that, though that was the problem before with my even older PC.. I believe I fixed it, in some unknown way, or I just wasn't on my mini-test run long enough. I opened it and did a singleplayer campaign, but only chapter 1 and it seemed okay, although it did get a little dimmer.

So, that leads me to say that I think it's fixed now. Hopefully, we'll see tomorrow when I try and play with other people again, and I can only hope I don't have to leave immediately because of a darkening screen. Thank you all :)

unfortunately that guide was made, like, a year after i posted about my problem. it probably just got swept under the rug by the time that solution was found, but thank you for the guide!
