There is no story in Left 4 Dead 2. And it's lame.

So i'm sure everyone is aware that gameplay is the main premise of the game one of the main reasons behind it's success. It's a weak title reminiscent of boomer shooters but with coop. The story, however, is almost non-existent, which was noted by Gabe Newell himself once when talking to the so-called "writer" of l4d telling him that he would come up with a story if he doesn't. At the end, neither Gabe or an intern writer actually came up with anything noteworthy. It ended up being narratively based with chunks of dialogue thrown here and there, but it's not a real story, it's rather just narrative. So where is the story in l4d? The game could have spent way more time in the oven rather than just 1 year after the release of the first experimental l4d title. The game would have had a full story with more campaigns and more places, but instead you are playing something immensely boring, just shooting zombies with almost no context. This is not very good and i'm sure some people in the community might understand that, but i have my doubts tbh.

This game was developed when zombie media peaked in popularity, and i'd say it's not so much the story that matters since it's usually the same across the board with zombie themes, but rather character personality and action. Simply put.

This is a multiplayer game and such games tend to not have a story. Other huge popular games with no story are Team Fortress Classic, Teams Fortress 2, Quake 3 Arena.
I think Quake 3 Arena was the first in this class.
