Why is the witch called a witch?

all the other special infected names make sense in one way or another. The charger charges at you, the boomer explodes, the tank is big and can take a lot of damage. But why is the witch called a witch? In L4D2, Rochelle suggests calling her a witch instead of a b*tch to avoid being mean, but as far as I know, theres no explanation as to why the L4D1 cast call her that.

In real life, witches and magic aren't real but human hysteria lead to people being accused of witchcraft and persecuted for it. In Left 4 Dead, witches aren't real threats unless you panic and startle them but players can also choose to intentionally kill them. So, maybe it has to do with them suffering unjust treatment if the players kill her. idk, this probably makes no sense

It could have something to do with the claws, witches I think have very sharp nails. Then there is also the luring aspect of the Witch. Her cries in the L4D1 opening led Zoey & Bill to believe that it could be a survivor. A witch can lure people to their deaths as well.

Well the names don't have to be entirely accurate - like it's not like the Smoker has a cigarette, the Tank firing shells, or the Boomer telling you to get off their lawn.

They probably get their names because they're easy to remember in the heat of the moment, and for the witch I can only assume it's because she is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard to kill despite being just skin and bones that you'd think witchcraft is in play - that or because the witch is more vulnerable to fire, leading to her being called a witch because you're supposed to burn her (if sneaking past her is not possible).

Her face & physical appearance, maybe? Try to get her a magician robe & hat, & she would completely look like a witch in some folktale books with illustrations . Probably she would be called a succubus instead if she were beautiful & hot

Cuz of her look and behaviour I guess. Same with other special infected. You just don't see her as a witch and thats okay.
